Hot Rods 1948 ford 5 window coil over?????????

    I recently purchased a 1948 ford 5 window. I question i have is the front end is a traditional i beam then in front of the i beam is a split i beam with coil overs. is this factory and why is it built like that?? i it rare??????? thanks for any :confused:

    I got to get over and see this thing.

    The I-beam is spilt in the middle, I get that. And instead of a leaf spring it has coils, OK, But I can't figure out how it would have much travel if the bones aren't split.

    Hopefully someone here has seen a simular set-up.
