I need some imput, I am restoring a family farm truck 1948 ford f1 6 cylinder 226 with a 4 speed ****** in it. I hate the way this transmission shifts no syncronizers, I am looking for an alternative are there any idea's out there??? I want it to look stock and I do not want to redo the clutch hook-up, I want it to be as stock as it can be. My ****** was rebuilt so that is not the problem.
    Thanks,
    Jim;)

  3. check the ford truck enthusiast forum. If I remember correctly ford offered a syncyo trans optional that might work . those guys there would know .

  4. also check the ford barn. the 3 spd trans should be syncro and an easy swap if ya don't mind loosing the granny gear

T-5 would work great and you gain a gear. The FTE site is great.

  6. Dude, I have the same trans. It ****s.

You can find a top-shift 3 spd, but you need to make sure you have the right yoke which at times can be hard to come by. As others have said, check out the Ford Truck Enthusiast site. There's a Myriad of info.

Also, there's a great thread on here by 'Scott in Missouri' who put a 5 speed in his F-1.

I finally got my hands on an S-10 T-5 earlier this summer and that's the route I'm going. Until then, happy gear grinding :)
