Is a good idea to replace a 1937 front axle with a 1948 one, to get the car a little lower? Here in Arg is dificult to get a dropped one.

    Thanks and happy new year!

    1948 is wider than 1937.

You will not gain any drop in the vehicle, the 48 axle is actually a disadvantage because it is wider (agree with rogga's post) and will create a potential tire rub on cornering.

Lowering is not my thing but shackles are long on the late cars, how ford tried to make the cross spring still work when everyone else gave them up. You could try changing parts on your frontend. Longer shackles will eliminate pre-load on installed spring. Also a pan hard bar to stop side movement, & sway bar like the postwar cars used would have to be added. What other interfearences would crop up would only be found by trial & error. Oh, and ford also had an offset in the wishbone for tie rod clearance probably built in axle drop. And then caster will increase, too much?

take out leafs, flip the main leaf, and section the crossmember. or make up a jig out of old broken spindles or model A spindles and some iron and two hydrolic presses.

    Thanks for all the messages.

Barry, do you have pics of the front axle of your 37? I'm interested in how sway bars can be installed.

    Thanks again.
