A completely rebuilt 1948 Mercury flathead V8 engine. Rebuilt with intent to create streetable, easy to drive, late model Flathead with an “Old School” race look.

Early crab style distributor, early style heads and AAR studs, 4x2 WEIAND aluminum intake with four new Stromberg 97’s achieve this goal. This engine is fully complete, running and ready to install.

The following work performed by the most reputable machine shop in the area, Engine Supply, in Santa Ana, CA.

Engine Block: This engine started out as a very nice 1948 Mercury block and connecting rods. A 1953 4-inch crank is ground to 010-010 rods and mains. Crank micro polished. Mercury blocks are the best and most desirable flathead blocks.

Engine Block Preparation: Engine block cleaned and magnafluxed No internal cracks were found! Water and oil passages cleaned to remove any remaining rust or sludge.

This block was sonic tested. Total displacement is 276”. Hardened exhaust valve seats installed for use with unleaded fuel.

Block has new black AAR studs.

Rotating Assembly: The famous and now rare 1953 Mercury crankshaft with 4.00 stroke is ground to -010, -010 on the rods and mains. Both crankshaft and rods are cleaned, and magnaflux inspected. Stock Mercury 8BA connecting rods have been resized and bushings installed at the piston pin end. New Keith Black pistons installed. Rotating assembly is balanced.

Camshaft Lifters and Valvetrain: The valvetrain is new and upgraded for use with unleaded gas. The camshaft is Isky 218800; 364" lift, installed with Isky valve springs and adjustable lifters. A nice street cam with mid-range power and torque peaks.

Hardened exhaust valve seats makes the engine usable with unleaded gas.

Speed Equipment: NEW Offenhauser finned aluminum cylinder heads and a very rare WEIAIND 4X2 aluminum intake manifold with common plenum.

Charlie Prices Vintage Speed provided four new Stromberg 97s and custom-made fuel manifold and calibrated electric fuel pump. For easy drive-ability, the common plenum intake manifold and carburetors setup is intended to allow the owner to easily block off the two outside carburetors, so for every day cruising only the two center units are used.

Accessories: This engine comes complete and running as pictured. New water pumps, Custom modified alternator/generator bracket, old school early style Crab distributor with Pertronics ignition, new front aluminum pulley, new starter, spark plug cables and spark plugs, headers, surfaced flywheel, clutch and portable starting stand are all included.

Payment & Shipping: Can negotiate delivery up to 200 miles from 92677,Laguna Niguel, CA.
