I'm pretty sure the Hirohata hood lip was hand formed. That Caddy has quite a pronounce peak to the center, too much for a Merc hood, in my opinion. I had a shop mimic the Hirohata hood lip when I was heavy into my project '51 Merc. Once the stock pot metal emblem is removed, the upper grill surround sticks out farther than the front of the hood. I had the shop cut the upper grill cavity loose, pull it a just a little more forward and weld to the hood. Then they filled the top with two curved metal strips that meet in the middle. Once that shape was settled, they hand built the area on the fender between the hood and the extended/frenched headlights to match. Kinda wish I still had the car. I sold it as an unfinished project.

Everything I have ever read about it says it was hand formed sheet metal. Including the description of it in the Barris Custom Techniques books.
