bob, the dean show is a mix. it goes up to 72. so, you have everything from streetrods to 72 super sport chevelles. there are actually two shows the same weekend a few miles apart. the ducktail in gas city and the the james dean run in fairmount. lots of streetrods like every other show in this part of the country, but, the mercs get their own parking at both shows if you want to park there. decent swapmeets at both. fairmount usually has some kustomisers there to sign stuff and talk to. i've met barris, winfield, and bailon there. there are lots of not so great cars, but, there are some really nice ones also. this isn't a rock-a-billy weekender sort of thing, but, there are some nice cars mixed in with the ho-hum shit.
I have been to both James Dean run shows....they both have a good mix of cars!!!!! there are alot over done cars there not just mercs it seems like all the cars at these shows had some sort of theme!!!!!
Here's some from our side of the water Shot at 2007-07-04 Shot at 2007-07-04 Shot at 2007-07-04 Shot at 2007-07-04 Shot at 2007-07-04 Shot with FinePix Z1 at 2007-07-04 Shot at 2007-07-04
A few from my collection. These photos I took at the first KOA show in Pigeon Forge Tenn. somewhere in the early 90's
50Mercfan, Thanks. I've always wanted to go to that show. I was hoping there was more to see than the cars that are usually posted. I think I pissed off Smokin Joe,but I was just giving my opinion. I like cars that look like they were built by their owner at home, not "shop built" cars. Many are works of art,but then what do you do with them? Most of those high-dollar cars don't get drivin. I'd rather see nice drivers.
Bad Bob, Check your PM when you get a minute. I do want to publicly apologize for jumping on you so fast. I guess I took offense that you said I must have bad taste in Mercs. I shouldn't have snapped back and gotten personal and I apologize for that. You're right when you say that the bad thing about computers is you can't see the expression of the person that's posting. Now that we have that schoolyard crap behind us, let's get together at the James Dean Run. Maybe we can host a hambers-get-together. Take care, Joe
This has been a fantastic post! Thanks to Bad Bob, SoCal Dave and all you others for helping me add to my Merc photo collection. Boones what a great idea for a post, funny it never has been proposed before. I might have a few more from the 80's somewhere and I'll post those sometime soon. This may continue forever like the Gasser post. Rikster the answer is YES!, do with them whatever ya want. I'll PM you tonight...... Thanks again, everyone..... Joel
Thanks Joel... Kid Deuce took some very nice photos of the Hirohata Mercury.... Paul Bragg built this 51 Merc convertible for himself... it won the Harry Bradley Design award.... and I think it was very well deserved. Russ Beckwith photo:
