Door handles do have their place in the kustom world. See one page back @Sum54ford posted pics of his beautiful gray '51 Merc mild kustom. Spot on! See also the black "Bootlegger" mild kustom '51 that @straykatkustoms posted right above it. Also with door handles. But most full kustoms are going to be shaved for a reason. They look better. Another '51 Merc pictured on the previous page, the Hirohata Merc, would not look good with door handles. Side note, Mick recently pointed out the full-on kustom by any definition, the Rod-n-Custom Dream truck has door handles.
Howdy Bill! Good to hear from ya.... Door handles do work on some kustoms. Still wonder why they didn't delete the door handles off of the Dream Truck. Mystery....
How kool it is to see “The Godfather” Mercury in the new issue of Kustoms Illustrated. Jack Walkers Hirohata clone and the Green Flame introduced me to Mercury’s. It wasn’t until I saw Gary & Getta Mundy’s Mercury running around that sealed the deal. I didn’t know that you could drive them. Lol! Needless to say I caught the “Crazy about a Mercury Blues” How Blessed I am to know the Mundys. Good times! Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Lol! I was just seeing of Sancho was going to catch my mistake. Thanks for the edit. Yes this was the Merc that I was talking about.

I often wonder how many of us Kids of the early 80`s were turned onto customs. Don`t forget Cool 50 and Midnight Sensation. Let the newbies wonder what we are talking about. Sancho can`t think about anything but Titus`s Merc .
Lol! Very true. I wasn't around in 1962, but 1982 kustoms were getting ready to take off again. Kool times...
I was high school in the 80's, but customs were off my radar. I was into muscle cars. In '92 I saw the Merc in the pictures below in Reno, Hot August Nights and was instantly a big fan of customs. Been trying to find out more about that car since 2013, with no luck. Here's a thread about it: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...-hot-august-nights-1992.775272/#post-12906427
Besides the "hood ornaments", I like the 3 window conversion and the reversed scallop paint job. Dual headlights are kool too.
