Can anybody here tell me if there is a difference in frames or wheelbase between the 2 / 4 doors , woodie , and convertible body styles?
Only difference I'm aware of is that in '51 the chassis got an additional set of holes for the trans mount. Manual trans case became about 2" longer. They kept punching the '49-50 trans holes all the way through '51. '27 T Roadster build: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=734383
talk to chris at shoebox connection.... he will know he is the shobox guru shoebox ford used to have... victorias and convertables had frames way beefier and x membered for support. woodie frames were longer and had a lot of differences. passenger cars i belive were all the same.. cheers
According to my '49-'51 "Green book" shop manual and "Chassis Parts and Accessories Catalog", there were 3 frames for each year, one each for pass cars, station wagons and convertibles. Victories aren't mentioned or included in this section. The frames are all the same 176 7/16" length, and have the same 114" wheel base. The converts have the X member, and wagons are narrower at the rear (42 13/32" v.s. 44"), along with other minor dimensional changes.
About '51 Victorias: I understand that some early ones used the convertible frame with the X-member; later ones (including mine) just had a reinforcing strap about 2" x 1/4" welded along the bottom of each rail between the kickups.
