Does anyone out there know how to make a steering wheel from scratch? Does anyone out there remake the 49-50 mercury accessory steering wheel? A good original sells for $1900!!!!! WTF! For a steering wheel? Crazy!

I have a 40 Merc and would love to run one of these steering wheels.

    I have a 62 Chrysler, and when I checked it was 1500, but it's a cleartop wheel

A friend of mine likes http://www.con2r.com for custom wheels.

There's at least one previous tech thread on making a wheel from scratch at home. If you have the tools, that's a possibility.

For more steering wheel ****, there's also http://www.steeringwheelbob.com

Seems like if you did a bit of work to a 51-52 Chevy wheel and added the Mercury center ****on, you could get pretty close for a couple grand less. Would fool most, I bet, depending on how much you modify it.

Someone IS reproducing that wheel, we bought one for the Kopper Kart. Can't remember the supplier, though. Not cheap!
