Has anyone ever set up a hydraulic slave or throw out bearing on one of these transmission setups? It is a 53 Merc engine and trans going in to a 31 Model A and I am struggling with a solution for the throwout bearing. Stock arm is a pull type but the bracket to mount a pull type slave stumps me. A push type slave would allow mounting to the bell housing but need to determine if 1" of travel is enough. Just looking to see if anyone else has done this for some ideas. Easiest solution is pull type slave mounted to the frame, but that is less than ideal. Thanks in advance. 332430687_731185962058724_8957392048920321697_n.jpg

I ran a 3 spd + OD out of a mid 60's Galaxie in my '51 Ford F-1 for many years with a hydraulic slave setup. The previous transmission was a NP435 out of a mid 80's F250, and I kept that slave setup after switching transmissions since I adapted the 3 spd to the F250 bellhousing. It worked quite well.

Any pictures? What bore master do you have? Thanks.

I use a pull type slave cylinder with a '39 style release shaft and a flipped over '39 release lever. The stock release fork inside the bell housing works fine. All you need is to fabricate a bracket to mount the rear of the slave, leaving enough length to adjust the clutch. 7/8" master and slave works good.

No Pictures. I stripped a few teeth off of first gear pulling a burnout sometime around 2008 and a M5R2 transmission found its way into the truck. The master was also stock Ford from a late 80's F250. Should be part number E8TZ-7A543-C if you want to look it up.

  7. I run a 3/4" master and a 7/8" external slave, it works well. This is pretty much the magic master/slave combo from what I have read.
