picked up this small size July 1958 CUSTOM CARS magazine the other day. I remember this car from the 70's at the local Bay Area indoor cars shows. looked just like it did in 58. the 50's owner was from San Francisco. a member of the Pacers anyone have any pictures or magazine articles of this car? or know any history or what it looks like now? I always thought this was a cool car.
Couldn't find any pics of the McArdle '49 Chevy on the Rik Hoving Custom Car Photo Archive FOTKI site ... at least not in the '49-52 Chevy custom cars or the Joe Bailon folders ... though Rikster does have a copy of the same July 1958 Custom Cars "TAKE A CHANCE" article that 49ratfink posted. PS ... a belated Happy Birthday to 49ratfink ... Wow! ... 50 years old ... Now you can join the Old Farts Club!
I'm not as old as you ... but I definitely remember seeing other pics of the car. It might have been in another "little pages" magazine? ... or in one of Andy Southard Jr.'s books? ... or more recent pics of it on the Internet? ... I'm not sure where, but I'm positive I've seen other pics of the McArdle '49 Chevy (with it's "unique" '56 Plymouth Fury side trim ). The late Jim McLennan (of Champion Speed Shop fame) was also a member of the Pacers CC in 1958 ... maybe there's a pic of the McArdle '49 Chevy on one of the many McLennan / Champion Speed Shop history web pages? ... Perhaps Andy Brizio has some pics of the car?
Right... I dont have a folder on the car... yet! And I also dont have the magazine, think I found the scans online some where, but I dont have the actual magazine in my collection... hence the absence of the folder on the car. I also dont have any additional information on the car... at least not right now. I do have another photo of it though...
I have poor photos of this car stashed away somewhere from 1976-77. I believe it was at the San Mateo show.
wow cool! i didnt know that car still exists... needs hubcaps really bad. and put skirts back on it and call it a day
