First off, I'm new to the H.A.M.B! I look forward to meeting all of you and will contribute as much as I can :)

I have, what I believe to be, a 1949 Chevy Sedan Delivery. Unfortunately, the original vehicle serial number/VIN tag and body style tags are long gone. I'm hoping that the engine can tell me something... I was able to uncover "FIIIK" next to the distributor, which I believe is the engine ID. I searched the web and was unable to decode - seems like this number should be a lot longer. Does anyone know how to decode this?

    Thanks!

Take the time to check the website for Inliners International. There is a section on engine numbers which can help you out. Good luck. Inliners.org

That engine number might be a later 235, which would explain why it looks wrong for a 49. A few pictures of the engine will help us help you identify it, or at least find the casting number and casting date on the passenger side of the engine, down low, might be hidden by the starter.

The suffix K could be a 57 truck 261 or a 58 truck 235. More info from the casting numbers will help sort it out.
