hi guys! Is it possible to upgrade these 1949 wheels and brakes with some later model stuff? I think its a 3800(1 ton) or 4100(1 1/2 ton) chassis.

b-bop and LOST ANGEL like this.
  2. I have an early 70’s c40 snub nose that I think has something similar, let me know if you want pictures or measurements. I don’t recall if they are still a split rim, if so maybe not enough of an update for you.

Cool bus ...wish I still had mine...
    Mine had 18" wheels 10 lug on the rear,front was like a 3/4 ton 8 lug non-bud 17" wheels ,that I replaced with 16".
The front sheet metal was all regular 1/2 -3/4 ton parts...not the bigger 1 1/2 ton stuff.
    I run a 270 Jimmy 6 ...lots of fun,
I was planning a suspension up grade using a 81 or so I ton front suspension crossmember and suspension, which will bolt onto the stock frame by making g a pair of wedge spacers to fit between the outer side of frame rails and cross member saddle, then mount the power steering box to the front of frame..and for the rear use a 1 ton rear axle assembly from a cube van reason is the housings are a little bit wider and fit better because the bus body being wider a 3/4 ton or 1 ton dulley pu rear axle is narrower than a cube van axle Sotheby's tires come out further and fill the fender wells better....but I sold my bus and never did the swap...I have seen it done and it works out great and fits better than a complete frame swap.
Have fun with it. 20211221_110117~2.jpg 20211221_110159~3.jpg

I doubt '70s would have split rims, i might take you up on that. Thanks!
