Any suggestions on a donor car for front and back seats for my '49 door Fleetline? The seats in it are junk...the fronts don't belong at all and the rear springs are all that's there. I'm looking for comfort....any ideas?

keep it original man. if redone, the factory ones can be comfortable.

then you won't look like another dufus that stuck some honda prelude buckets in an otherwise cool car.

I have a set outta my '49. Was going to use them but trans tunnel was way to big after the drop. I went with '65 Mustang front and rear set. Rear is a bit narrow - but i am building a one off interior so this is not an issue.

Get some 60' buckets and use the stock rear.

    My $.02

thanks for the ideas guys. the front is already gone. i still have the rear seat springs and will probably save them. so i guess the real question is...what to do about the front :) thanks again for all your input!!!

Get a stocker for the front.

  10. You can fit just about anything in the front of these. Early to mid-60s GM buckets. Jaguar leather seats. Mid-80s GM both midsize and fullsize. Just measure how wide across the body, subtract a couple inches, and head to the junkyard. I had a '72 Skylark bench in one for a while, plenty of room for it. Just make sure to put a piece of thicker plate where you run the bolts through if you need to alter the mounts.

And in the rear it's not hard to change, either. I gutted a '64 Gran Prix and the buckets fit fine, the rear seat bottom fits, I cut up the upper because the springs were shot, but figure a midsize 80s GM rear would make a good donor to combine with what I saved from the seat top.

As long as you avoid cheesy buckets with built in headrests that don't come off, they should look fine and if you get them redone at some point most people won't even know the difference.

The 90's model lincoln seats fit real nice and they are low back and they are cheaper than the caddy seats .

I saw a 50 Bel-Air once with front and rear seats from a 64 (?) Impala SS. still had the black Impala uhpolstry on it and it looked good. If a person were to put buckets in one of these you got to get some big ones. early 60's GM seats are cool.
