For the door issue, check for worn striker plates....very common to find them worn out.

Its still not turning over well. Are you using 6V battery cables? It matters. 12V cables will do exactly what yours is doing. I hate 6V systems and suggest going to 12 volts. When you do, leave the 6V starter and use a modern Bendix. You will be happy.

When I was 15 dads 41 Ford PK used to crank slow like yours . Parked it on downhill slopes if available. We could push start it faster. One day while push starting on flat ground I got my foot to far back and the rear tire pulled me to the ground hard. Tire walked right over my leg. At 15 we just laughed and shook it off.

    Congratulations.

The first thing I would do right now is...
    nothing.
Since it cranks and runs, let it run, let the rings seat. Break it in right and most likely it will loosen up. Try this first.

1949 was a one year only door latch. It can be fixed, it just takes good parts and patience. Oh, seatbelts are always a good idea.

I Have a Modern Bendix sitting on the garage floor. I couldn't get it to fit into the housing... So I used the old Bendix from the smoked starter.

We made our own cables with some copper 1/0 we had laying around. Perks of the electrician career.
I'm 100% sure the timing is off I don't have a dwell meter. However I did just order the electronic ignition for the 6v positive ground.
Once I get the old ***** back on the road I will tackle the 12v conversion. :)

Everybody's favorite auction site . Look for NOS stuff.
I would consult the shop manual. There is an "art" to adjustment. Likely the reason the doors do not shut is someone has monkeyed with it......Ahhh It's a pain in the ***.
Shoebox Central may have these off their collection of parts cars.... No joke, I would give them a call. They may can steer you to a source and give some advice.
