Finally getting ready to fire up the flathead in my '49 Ford Coupe this week. Going tomorrow to get battery cables made. Question though. My battery is on the drivers side, and the solenoid is on the passenger side, as is the starter, so the Negative cable will need to go over/behind the motor. What routing is standard, or have you done ?? I am staying 6 volt Positive ground. As always, appreciate your info.. Pictures would be helpful also..
Is it a V8 or a 6? My 50 V8 the solenoid is on the left along with the other stuff. Here's a pic stolen off the net: https://images.auction123.com/f5c94ca5-be95-4543-8470-a874b4aa794c/98BA759812/26.jpg?wtrmk10nw
My engine is a V8. Ordered a complete set from Shoebox Central... Always get quality parts from them..
No. Not on my '51 Coupe. I have to be careful when fooling with the dipstick not to miss drop the end and get into the solenoid. The solenoid was also on the driver's side of my 50 Coupe. I can't remember where it was on my 49 sedan. Positive Cable goes under the engine on the crossmember and back to the starter motor. If you keep your Solenoid on the passenger side the better bet is still to go under the engine on the crossmember, up to the passenger solenoid, down to the starter motor. The factory location was the driver's side for the solenoid as the wiring harness exits out the driver's side firewall. A passenger side solenoid seems odd to me, but I have not seen it all.
