1949 ford hood and trunk to a 1950?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by lcpland, May 5, 2013.

  1. I have a 1950 ford that needs some hood and trunk work (the paint is pitted, bad paint, etc) I found a really good deal on a hood and trunk from a 1949 ford. is that a simple exchange?
From searching here and shoeboxford.com, it sounds like the trunk hinges can be swapped as the holes look like they are in the same place (is this true?).
As far as the hood is concerned, i know the latches are different, so can i take off the bracket support from my 50 hood and easily put in in the 1949 hood?

after all of this, is it worth the work? the hood and trunk from the 49 are solid with no rust, the paint is great on both except one corner of the hood. Is this worth the effort, my goal is to save time/money by not having to to do any body work on my hood and trunk lid, then trying to match the paint when that time comes.

The latches are the same it's the hood brace & hinges that are different. Fortunately they are interchangable as a set. The 50 hinges are better than the 49 so swap your 50 hinges into the 49 hood. The hinge brackets are supposed to bolt into the cowl the same as the 49.
After you get the hood on take your time & make sure the hood latch is adjusted properly. I adjust mine by lengthening the pin until it goes completely thru the latch plus a little slack. Then I tighten the pin until all the slack is gone & lock it down with the jam nut. When you close the hood you should be able to set it down on the latch & latch it with a firm push to the top on the hood. After that there shouldn't be any slack in the latch.
