Engine number on the plate is 9ee-1056, serial number is md83h49-30381, model is md83. So would it be m = Merc d= Detroit? 83rd car that day, h =? 49 i think is obvious, then not sure about the last digits, also my trim is 16 and my paint is 32. I appreciate any help

  3. 32 paint code does not show on regular charts for 48-50, may be a special order color or a fleet order.
16 trim code is for the standard brown interior.
All early Merc truck were built in Canada

Here is some very limited info on Canadian Ford numbers. Not nearly enough, but perhaps they can direct you to more or to their guru: http://www.wnyrg.org/canvins.html
Post '32-48 numbers are much more complicated and informative than the earlier ones, which were pure serials.
Canadian numbers were not in the same series as USA ones since Ford Caanada made its own engines and was a real factory, not just an assembly location.
If you find any good sites for more info, post'em!

If the historic Mercury VIN decoder is correct your truck is actually a 1950 based on the “50”
In the serial number. I know in BC people will often use insurance papers from other old vehicles to use on a new build. My “1948” Mercury MD83 has the same 50 in the serial so not sure which is correct any more.
