not mine but any ideas what this is worth, all rebuilt. cant find a body for it and wondered if anything ford would be close.
As far as value goes, a good running/rebuilt Merc 255 flathead is good property, and you could probably sell it separately for as much as, if not more than, the complete ch***is. Lots of guys looking for those engines but very few want them for a Mercury. Same with the wheels and tires, they're 5 on 5.5" pattern like an early Ford, lots of interested buyers for the wheels/tires. And I'm sure someone would buy a complete, super clean Mercury frame with suspension and rear. But I bet it'd be a long time before you'd find someone who wants to restore a Merc and actually needs all of that stuff together.
I should add, there's really no other body that would fit this ch***is without so much work that it wouldn't be worth it. A baby Lincoln 49-51 from the firewall back would fit on here if you found a Mercury front clip to run on it, but that's about as close as it gets.
The thing with 49/51 Mercs is that few people that have them restore them to orginal . On the other hand a lot of the stock frames under them have had a very hard life and are often cracked around the front crossmember or at the rear. The motor might be worth more than the rest of the ch***is but advertise it in the right places and someone will travel a long ways to pick the whole ch***is up and take it back and put it right under their body.
I saw that pop up on Marketplace. If it's truly "all rebuilt" I doubt you could do all that for the money. The engine rebuild alone would get you in that price range. Start adding the cost of rebuilding the trans, rear axle, sandblasting, painting everything, rebuilding the front & rear suspension & steering box, new tires, etc., and it adds up quick. Now if "all rebuilt" means it's had things cleaned and painted, that's not the same thing. As stated, what fits is '49-'51 Merc & Baby Lincoln (if you use the Merc front sheet metal). Since there's been a lot of Mercs put on '80s full size Olds ch***is, maybe you could put one of those bodies on it! Kidding. It can be used as a basis for a custom. Rear lowering blocks and shorter springs (or spring plate spacers) in the front get the traditional lowered look. I've found plenty of Mercs for sale lately. They're out there, if you're willing to do the rust repair, and pay the asking price. You might even find one with a butchered-up frame that someone was trying to add a modern clip to and failed.
