Technical 1949 Mercury VIN decoding help needed

Hi There, I'm new to the forums.

Recently picked up a 1949 Mercury and could use a hand decoding the VIN.

The Tag on the left of the firewall reads:
#9CM#171924# LA
01 59D

The tag next to it reads:
Style 9M72
Body No 75734

It is a serial number , not a VIN.
