Hey all its been a while, I have a 1949 Oldsmobile that I owned 8 years ago, I just bought it back.
So here comes the questions. It has a what looks like a 70's Oldsmobile front clip in it. though it was done good, it is too wide. I was wondering if any one has used a 79 to 82 ish Malibu elcamino G body front frame for a graft it seems narrow enough as I have used it before on 1950 Chevrolet's. I was just wondering if anyone has used something else with good results. I know this is not traditional for front suspension, but it will be covered by a traditional 50's style custom body. I will be posting pictures in a couple of months when I start on it, just gathering up parts right now. Thanks James

I used 78 Trans Am on my 49 Buick. Width is fine.

I used a '77 Cad Seville front clip on my '49 Cad and it is the perfect width....also the disc brake rear is a great fit.

Have you got a tape measure and a junkyard?

My convertible, a 48 98 has a 76 cutl*** clip, not too wide for a 98. You didn't say what series it was, but grab a tape measure and start measuring

I used a 68 thru 74 Nova, rear steer unit my '50. One reason is, you can retain the original radiator and hood latch mounting, and the other aspect is the steering column. Mine is fitted with a 455 Olds engine, if you plan on using a BBC, the rear steer unit will not work. Depending on how much of your original frame is still there, these pics show it in place. You might want to check out Baron's thread, on his '49. He used a Nova with great results. 2012-09-27 203514.jpg 2012-09-27 203830.jpg

Thanks for all the input, I think I will do a nova rear steer, I did grab a tape and run through the U Pull it and most late model stuff is too wide. S 10 is narrow but steering box is way fore ward, I think I will just keep it old school probably run with the Nova even rock the drum brakes for a while.
And I did forget on the header, it is a 1949 77 model fastback with no trim on the fender sides or door sides, and plain dash, no chrome.

Is there any company that makes headers for the 303 or 324 Olds motor? I am putting in a 324 motor in my 49 fast back and i cannot find any company that makes headers. docwiese7@yahoo.com

Look at Noxious headers. Might work. He was selling them on that auction site. I have them on my 324 in a 32 frame
