Definitely don't want a pic of someone's junk, but if wanting a slanted b pillar, would it be better to move it back a bit and then extend the doors? Just a little so it doesn't look odd.
There's an ad in the cl***ifieds for some rear fenders that look like they're in better shape than yours, same guy is selling some other '49 Plymouth stuff too. Might get you a bit further ahead if you're anywhere even close to Cleveland... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/1949-plymouth-rear-fenders-lower-price.996369/
Pretty certain that your original seat material was a striped broadcloth. Most mohair was last used a few years before your car, I believe.
Sweet, thanks you guys. Unfortunately I am no where near Ohio, I live in Utah or else I'd consider looking at those fenders. He's selling pretty good seats as well, but we discussed previously that I may just get newer seats. To reupholster the originals costs like a grand! Anyways, I have put a car cover over it for now. It breaks my heart but I will be saving up to buy parts in the meantime to bring this thread back to life! Sorry for the silence Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Make it run and stop first! Maybe some junk yard seats, save the reupholstered stock stuff for guys with deep pockets. Fix the rust, fill the dents and shoot it satin black and drive it! Make sure it has a nice back seat. High school girls are not gonna wanna ride in some rats nest. If ya know what I mean.......
Haha way to make my day! You seriously couldn't get me to stop laughing for a minute there. Hmm, the more I think about it, I just don't think girls would ride in it with someone like me. You see, I'd much rather be enjoying my car than the gals! Or both, you never know how it will go down!! Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Glad I made ya laugh! But seriously a slammed black early type cruiser is cooler to the right kind of woman than a pimped out import.
Chad, research on how to awaken a long sleeping engine. Buy tuneup parts and gaskets (gotta adjust the valves and clean out the oil pan!), change out the fluids in the engine and trans. Pull the radiator and have it cleaned and checked. You should be able to get it running in a week or two and under $400. Check into 6V to 12V conversions at P12/D24. They will have good info on the drivetrain too. Figure out how to stop it within your budget and skill level. As said, the upgrades will be cheaper and better, but both will be a bunch of work. Stock requires special tools and knowledge, along with finding parts. Swapping the rear axle, putting on front discs and installing a modern master cylinder will be more research and a bunch of money and work, but will end up a better solution and easier to repair down the road. You can sand down a panel at a time and rattle can it flat black. It won't hold up for 10 years, but it will teach you the basics and look more complete. Cheap results for now, so you remain motivated.
