Soooo here's the deal we're making a truck for my son out of 2. one is a 1950 3100 p/u the other is a 85 k20. its geared toward a daily driver build that'll outlast me(hopefully) We wanna keep the 1950 looks but have the 4wd reliability up here in wi. b4 i get kicked off this message board for sacrilege I was wondering if anyone has done this before.? rough measurements look good, basic plan is overhaul 85 frame an running gear an slap the 3100 cab/frame on it. He is a big fan o the 50s look. i'm looking to make this thing kick ass.
Hello, Yes it has been done, Really not to bad of a job as long as you have patience & a good tape measure. One of my friend's is finishing up '63 Chevrolet restoration that is also being mounted onto an 80's 4x4 frame, for a customer.
I've done this a couple of times. K20 axles are to wide. Last one I did I used the original frame and Jeep wagoner axles. The Jeep axles are the right width and early ones have six lugs.
Funny, I have both vehicles too. If nothing else when they are both apart and you need to remember what goes where shoot me a pm. As far as the actual conversion, anything can be done, just look around here at some of the things people have done. And it would be cool as hell. Is your 3100 a long bed? I would think the frame would be too long if not. My advice though is to click up top where it says community and then click social groups. Look through there for the various groups such as AD truckers. The main board may not be so friendly to your project as the site is devoted to traditional means of mods, not chassis swaps. Just trying to save you some grief as I have been there when I asked about an S-10 chassis swap...
Listen to Shadams, he has some wise advice about the community groups. The AD truckers is a good group to get along with.
