Hello I am looking for some info on the length of a buick roadmaster fender . I have a 51 tourbak sean and am thinking about installing roadmaster front fenders to make the car longer . I would appreciate any help . Please measure from headlight opening straight back to the rear edge of the fender at door opening . Thanks in advance . AW1950

The Roadmaster has a longer wheelbase. The fenders will not come anywhere near fitting your car.

The usual method of making the front fender look longer, is to extend the fender a few inches with sheet metal and french in a different set of headlights. 53 Ford steel headlight rims are great for this.

I think you will find a difference in width also between 40 and 70 series.

I am aware that the wheelbase is way off and I am also aware that I will have to move the wheel opening around to get the correct wheelbase . I just need someone , anyone , to give me the measurement that I am after. I will deal with the issues later . Thanks for your input . Andy..

It is, of course, a matter of taste..but I think you will find adding a longer fender and moving the wheel opening rearward in that fender to correspond with the wheel location will result in very unattractive proportions for that fender. Maybe you will like it and maybe you won't care if others do or not.

But it is no accident that certain shapes, forms and proportions are pleasing to the human eye.

I would suggest you invest a little time with some photos and a scissors and copy machine (I'm too dated to use Phototshop, but maybe you know how) and do some alterations in the manner you have in mind to decide if the look that results is even close to what you think looks good. Won't cost much in time or money and will let you make a decision that you can live with before you expend the substantial effort this is going to take in real metal.
