Bingo, and I really don't think there would be as many negative posts if it looked like you were doing a quality job. From the pics the welds look pretty iffy. And the track of the axles is all wrong. It doesn't bode well for the rest of the build.

second or third night I had mine, we had a big windstorm. I was already in bed, my wife came in and said "I think you need to take a look out the back window". It was hovering about 4' off the ground! I hauled *** out there in my underwear (good thing it was dark out) Undid the bungee cords, which was real exciting in the pitch dark with a 40 mph wind blowing, and peeled the top off. Left it off till the following weekend when I bolted it down and added the cinder blocks. Since then, it has blown even harder, but no problems, touch wood.

Thing is, if we cut all the PC ********, and be really honest, hes really not doing it to be different at all. Its not like he decided "Hey what I really want to build is a '50 buick g***er", then went out and hunted one down. No, what happened here was he had a '50 Buick laying around, and a solid front axle from an old PU, and decided "hey, all the cool HAMBers are building "g***ers", I can scab all this old **** together, and be one of the cool guys too". Dare to be different my ***. Dare to be the same is more like it.
"Dare to be different" would be building a Model A sedan with full fenders chromies, scavenger pipes and a big rake, instead of chopping the **** out of it, tossing the fenders, double Zing it and adding a 350 with lakes headers like everyone else. Or building this Buick as a La carrera car. Now THAT would be different.
There is NOTHING different in this day in age about taking whatever you have laying around, sticking a straight axle under it, calling it a g***er, and saying you are being "different". Sorry, but thats my take on it. You all know what an arrogant ***hole I am, so take it for what its worth.

Edit: Ooops. DAMN! Inside voice George, INSIDE voice.

Edit 2: Just realized none of the "cool" g***er guys will know what the hell a "La Carrera" car is anyway...

"Arrogant ***hole" I don't think so, just a non sugar coated honest opinion.

Thanks- you've just defined the hobby in its most basic form. I used blanks- sorry for the edit to your exact words, but we'll all live.

For decades, guys & gals have seen cars in person or in pictures of something they thought was cool in the hot rodding world & have set out to build thier own versions with what they have available at thier disposal.

We're all here because we think traditional rods were cool, & we set out to build our own versions. Yea, you're being an arrogant ***hole, but more importantly you're making an *** outta yerself & forgetting what the hobby is about- and boys & girls, it is all about what an individual builds to suit his tastes with the parts he chooses.

not every body has money to put up a big fansy garige and has the money to make top quallity stuff ( thats if you do all of your work ) instead of taking it to a body shop or a custom shop this one i can say i did it all my self and be proud of it. what I get a kick out of is the whole meening of a hot rod whent out the door now every one wants this thing call a show car. the hot rod from the 50 and 60 were more like that rat rods today . just somthing for you to think about

How hard did you even think about that?

You know, you are absolutely right, and I should apologize for my outrageous behavior. I had a difficult day yesterday. I was home with the flu, and I watched the morning news when I woke up.
This is never a good idea. You see, I have this "******** threshold" It works sort of like the rad cap on your car. Lets say you have a 15 psi rad cap, if the pressure in your cooling system exceeds 15 psi, it will vent the excess pressure. My ******** threshold works kind of the same way. Theres only so much ******** I can swallow in one day, and then I just start saying whats on my mind, in order to vent the excess ******** that I am expected to absorb in this day and age.
Watching the morning news is never a good idea, because by the time the news ends, I have exceeded my quota for the day, and am going to start saying what I really think.
I think I may not have a good day today, as reading your post has brought me dangerously close to my daily ******** threshold again, so this time I will apologize in advance.
******** may seem like a good thing at first. When its fresh, its warm and soft, and comforting to wallow in. But after a while, it turns cold, and starts to smell bad. Then someone has to shovel it up, and no-one likes that.

That's not really the way I remember it from the 60's. You worked your **** off and ate beans all week so you could buy that part you needed.

You didn't build G***ers from leftovers.

Reminds me of a story. A buddy of mine spent his paycheck on a new ring and pinion for his race car. His girlfriend (now wife) set it in front of the frig so that he'd know why there was nothing to eat and no cold beer when he wandered into the kitchen. :)

When I started my 30 roadster on deuce rail project in the Navy when I was 18 I had to live off ramen noodles and Ketchup packets many times! it was kind of sad now that I look back at it but I did what I had to do...

50 guys would build it 50 different ways, no matter how you decide to build YOUR car some been there, know it all, cool tough guy is gonna S.L.H.A.M.B. it. Build it how you want RH just build it safe and have fun! Jeeeeze what a tough crowd, at least he ain't wasting his money and time building a Mustang or Camaro or something that burns rice. I admit it, I am quick to judge and say the first thing that comes to mind but in this day and age we need a little more positivity! Building a 50's car, no matter what style, in a portable shop, on a dirt floor, using a street sign as a creeper?! come on, that's dedication! Kudo's to you RH!!! I'm subscribing so keep the pics coming and good luck with the build!

The quality of the build is not indicative of the amount of money spent. There are plenty of low budget rides that are built well. I think you're confused as to what I meant by quality.

That's good to hear, street freaks are a 70's thing, off topic for the HAMB. :p

This sums up how many of us feel. It may not seem like a big deal to some of you younger fellas, but you are rewriting OUR history. It's our duty to call ******** when we hear it. People welded **** together back then too. But, they were called jalopies or clunkers or dune buggies. Race cl***es were race cl***es, not some term that was up for anyone's interpretation. I used to hang on the fence when I was a little kid to watch the g***er wars. Do you think any kid would spend his meager allowance to see a 4 door Buick with a pick up truck axle run mid 20 seconds? You wouldn't think that if you were there.

There is a finite number of old cars. They deserve some sort of respect. Even Buick 4 doors.
