Hello, I have a 1950 Cadillac series 62. I'm trying to figure out exactly what engine is in it. It has a 4bbl carter wcfb tag#2005s on it so at first I thought maybe someone switched the intake to a 52-56 to run a 4bbl. But then I was wondering if the intake was swapped or the motor.... I looked on the p***anger side of the block in front by the water pump and on the machines flat boss that I believe the engine vin# is it says 66591 (or7?)pscal. Everything I've read says that the engine# should match the vin# and that it should be the last 2 digits of the year for the first two numbers. The engine looks like a 331 based on the pictures I see in my manual. And I briefly owned a 66 Cadillac and I know its not the same motor from that. I live in San Diego so I ***ume the letters maybe mean power steering and califonia. But I'm at a loss for this engine number. Anyone have any ideas?

I'm no expert on Cadillacs but that does seem like a strange number on your engine. I also remember that the engine numbers in that era started with the year. For example a 1949 motor was 49**X, etc. I have no idea how long they did that but I'm sure a Caddy expert will be along to help you shortly.

The Carb is from a 53 Cadillac without AC, Hydramatic (before the factory burned down)

Thet sounds like the sequence number but is missing the first 4 **** with the first 2 **'s being year, and then series, 62,60, or 75
