Had to cut a wrench so I could tighten the upper starter nut. I am glad I put studs on the starter holes these starters are heavy.
Plugs are in, coil is on. Going to order a oil pressure switch ,and if i cant get the screw off the points maybe a new distributor
Thank you guys, almost destroyed it! Installed the new points and gapped them at .019. Now I know what that screw does
I put an oil pressure gauge on the side of the block. I want to make sure I have oil pressure before I start it - by priming the engine. Unfortunately the tool that I got does not fit my engine, so now I am in search
Sad sad day ,put oil in the engine , getting ready to prime it and i cant get the oil pump shaft to turn. Thought my battery was weak on the drill so i put a screw driver and it did not want to turn. The engine was rebuild about 7 years ago was still in the metal crate we I got it. Going to take the engine out again and see what happen...
Rust inside the pump. Im sure glad I tried priming the engine, cant imagine the damage it would have caused
It has been a long couple of nights ,but there is set screw that holds the pump in place . Is there anything i should know about it when its time to put the new pump back ?
New pump is on!!! Cleaning up the oil pan ,got new oil pan bolts and running a die to clean the treads on the block
40 + psi. Since I was there I did not like the way the belt align so I went a ahead and ordered a alternator bracket for this engine, what a difference. I also notice the side cover gasket leaking so I ordered one. Plan to put the distubutor before I install the engine..... again View attachment 6457028 View attachment 6457028 View attachment 6457032 View attachment 6457032
Just cant get a brake with this engine, oil pan gasket leaked. After cleaning all the surface area again I was looking inside the block making sure no debris got inside and notice some cam lobes pitted
Got my camshaft back went with a regrind from Schneiders , they gave it a bump on the lift hope to get 5 more horsepower . Now going to work on the lifters and clean the lifters bores.
You're having some tough luck on that "fresh" rebuild, but glad you're keeping at it. It's always a bit of extra effort to jump in where someone else left off, trying to figure out what the last guy did. Making progress though.
What do you mean "going to work" on the lifters. Hopefully not the ones in that bucket; you should use new lifters on a fresh cam.
