1950 chevy deluxe

Got fuel and spark but no running engine. It keeps backfiring too. Any ideas, Im thinking timing. Inline 6

 

It sounds like timing. If im not mistaken, dont you sent your timing from a hole to the flywheel?

Sounds like you may be too far advanced.

Always go to the basics I say:

1. Put your motor on top dead center.
1a. Check rotor to ensure in right spot for #1 on Distributor Cap
1b. Pull distributor if off and reset in engine.
2. Check plug wires, make sure they are correct.
3. Ensure the carb gives fuel
4. Do you have spark?
5. Try to start the car.
6. If all else fails, go back to #1
