I don't think you will be happy without mufflers, remember you will be sitting at the open end of a residence chamber. I tried that on my 40 Ford Sedan Delivery and after driving about 60 miles promptly put some mufflers on it. I have had mine since 59
I'll be with it at the muffler shop. I'll let him know I need mufflers as a contingency and if it's too loud or obnoxious I will have him cut some mufflers in. I'm sure he will have some recommendations for mufflers.
In all modesty, AND NEVER being that sort of person who would say "I told you so", I'm humbled that you took my suggestion and went with a Group 51 . All kidding aside, you do nice work, Robin .
I got a smile on my face when I saw your choice in taillights. I did exactly what you did ! My rear bumper is an old cast-off 50s pontiac, narrowed a with the ends trimmed about 3-4 inches. I welded part of a license plate surround to shade the license plate. I built a nice 406 chevy small block with a 4 speed for mine. I used marine grade plywood for a level back floor with hinged doors covering the rear passenger foot wells...made a great place to store stuff
It's kinda off topic, but all part of the project I guess. I've never shot any epoxy primer, but I'm working on my car hauler trailer so I can get the car to the muffler shop. Putting some new fenders on it so I thought I would try shooting some epoxy primer I bought a while back. The fenders turned out pretty good. I will have to grind it back where I have to weld them on but that's ok. I learned a lot about setting up my HVLP primer gun, which I will need very soon for the car. Here are the painting results. u
You go girl!! Nice job! I was pleasantly surprised how relatively easy the jump was to HVLP when I started after a whole life with the siphon gun. Once I got used to the new settings, not to bad.
I had a few runs (alot!) on the first fender. I checked the settings against the recommended settings for the paint, and lowered the spraying pressure to 8 to 10 lbs. It was at about 25 psi. Adjusted the paint flow way down, opened the fan just a touch and we were off to the races!!
Thanks Jeff! New goal is to drive it to Dewey in September. That could happen if I don't find a job before then, but I sure hope I do. I have a big interview today in 15 minutes and I have my fingers crossed!
Exhaust is on and front end is aligned. It sounds like it should. I had a couple of cheap glass packs put on it. Picking up some momentum on the project! Hopefully that will slow down soon. I have had several interviews with a very reputable retailer for a Facilities HVAC Specialist . Fingers crossed!
Getting the car ready to start driving it on the road. Got it registered and insured. I need to get the windshield put in so I'm priming the windshield frame and dash. Hope to get some color on it later this evening or tomorrow.
I used gray epoxy primer on my coupe about 4 years ago and it the summer months the car is my daily driver. It's been holding up great but I cheat....I actually waxed the primer to seal out dirt & road scum, knowing this car will never get metal worked or painted..
Nice, so you decided to bite the bullet and handle it yourself. Looks great from here, cant wait to check it out in person !
Yeah I had a coaching lesson from @Lloyd's paint & glass on the phone yesterday evening. He gave me some good pointers and tips and tricks. It doesn't look too bad for a rookie!
First step of being a painter is a pony tale (or that is at least what I thought when I painted regularly), so you got this Robin!
Been in the shop since early this morning. I am learning a little more with each batch of paint I'm mixing up. I haven't had this much fun since Trevor and I fired up that old flathead engine he drug home a few years ago! I'm looking forward to peeling that paper and tape off after I'm done painting. So far I'm digging the colors!
Damn bug or something got in the paint of course. I rolled the car out into the inferno on the driveway for a couple of hours to bake the paint in this God forsaken August oven. 107° F today here for the high temperature. Rolled it back in, sanded the blemish out and scuffed everything else. I put 2 more wet coats on and cleaned everything up for the evening. It was a good day out in the shop today, except for the bug!
