Posted a bunch of pics in other threads on the 50 Desoto..Dash reworked . Got the new Motor Racing analog gauges.. I like them alot.. and they are unbranded too.. Gauge panel configured , now to cut holes , add 3 more small holes for directionals and high beam.. First pic when it arrived.. undid the frenched headlights and lake pipes
Cleaned up the shop and passenger lake pipe removed...Wheels have to go … Thinking of traditional torque thrusts
Checking the front suspension.. Everything feels tight . Borgeson fast ratio steering box ready to install
Deciding weather to weld up the trim holes upper body.. thing is the trim makes it easy to paint the Desoto 2 colors..
Mocked up the GM tilt column.. looks like a good fit… Still on the fence to use a non keyed column..gonna change out the stock steering wheel …
Restoration Specialties will have any needed clips for the molding. I grabbed a couple of early Chevy C10 non-keyed columns for the Buicks. Non-tilt though. I think they were non-keyed until 71. @squirrel would know. The truck ones have the TH400 detent pattern in the years 69?-up
I would prefer non tilt.....the ones I found are rusty and crusty... il check Restoration Specialties for the clips,,,Squirel is an encyclopedia ...lol...
GM started putting the ignition switch on the column in 69...except trucks and vans, which had no switch for several years after that. Trucks got it in 73, vans around late 70s?
Let’s see, vehicle, check, build plan, check, engine, check, transmission, check, color, pending, upholstery, pending, exhaust , pending, a jar of moonshine ( for emergencies, hehe), check, seatbelts, double check, straight jacket in case it all falls apart, check. Carry on.
Pulled the 350 / 4 speed out..Trans on it way to a Trans am project....engine bay looks huge but that chevy 350 filled it up nice.. Gonna reinstall with turbo 400 and set it back 5 or 6 inches more for radiator / mechanical fan clearance.,,. Straight Jacket secured in case TSHTF.
Got Power ? Rebuilt 350 set back 6 1/2 inches sitting on the new heavy wall tubular engine cradle with new motor mounts...
Looks like I'm gonna go with these instead of the block hugger headers....they dump back already and are further from the oil filter so less heat..and they are 1 5/8 primary tubes so more flow....gotta go with the flow.
