There's a 1950 Dodge meadowbrook sitting in a field for sale, cheap. Its a 4 door (eh)..... looks original paint(light green,) looks complete, original Anyone like these? Are they fancy/ complicated like a Cadillac/Lincoln type car? or simple Looks like this, 'cept sitting in a field for many decades condition https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50597810526_767386a625_b.jpg
A buddy had one it was a nice looking car. I don’t know much about them mechanically. From what I remember of his it was kind of on the Chevy/Ford level of the day. I would drive it, who cares if it is 4 doors. You will pay for it and maintain it, it has to make you happy.
The link may give you some good information. ... that 230 flathead engine is a great engine, just not very powerful https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/1950-dodge-meadowbrook-help.1031285/
simple cars , parts are available , if its solid rust wise , gl*** is good , not missing alot , then go get it...a good start for a first build..,,,,,,whats cheap ? gotta be cheap cheap ...have you looked at prices on anything car related lately ? if its rough save some money and buy a better candidate....more complete...running , good gl*** etc,,,,...Good luck...
Good point. Parts and materials for any car are going to cost, so it makes sense if you're going to put money into parts and materials it may as well be for a car that's worth something and has a market. Unless it's a car you have coveted all your life and is a keeper.
If the car is cheap, you were close enough to either see the asking price on it, or you spoke with someone? Maybe post pics of the car in question, not “this is what it could be” and what your plans are for it? That said, I think you really want to know if you would be working on a straight forward vehicle or some 50’s “state of the art” type thing? I think of some of the braking ***ist setups, ride leveling stuff, etc tht was around, but difficult to fix now. Versus a simple car with shocks and manual brakes. Which I’m sure the ‘50 would be (although a 4 door) be like working on a ‘50 Dodge pickup.
Its worth saving either way. They are basic cars but still decent quality. Id say the quality is better than the chevy of those years. If you don't like it, take it to the swap meet and sell it to someone else wanting an entry level rod.
Around here they are not so little and have a bushy tail....unless you are talking mice... But back to the op, how about some pics? Sitting in a field says that the floors and rockers are probably gone. The L6 is durable just not a power house.
The father of a cl***mate of mine had one as a 'work car' that my friend got to use on occasion. A good dependable car that had the "Fluid Drive" which made it less than stellar in the performance sense, but it rode and drove nice and never let him down. They are not expensive to work on, and the drivetrain components were used for years in various MoPar vehichles.
4dr Meadowbrook isn't worth much at all. Field car condition maybe 300-500. You can find a running old restored example for like 4500-6000. No reason to sink money into one that needs everything. If it were a coupe, convertible or wagon that would be a different story.
