    Hello all...
I have been working on this car for a couple of years now.
I was driving east on HY. 80 between Mineola and Hawkins and spotted an old 50's car on the side of the road.
    Made a U-turn and took a look.
    They wanted $1000.
I eventually bought the car for $800.
We made up a tow bar from 2 pieces of chain link fence posts, a chain and a few long bolts.
After getting it home I tore it apart.
Floor was completely gone under the floor mat along with both rockers!!! Crap....Oh well....
Today It has all new 16ga. rockers and 18ga. floor and firewall which has been set back 4" for the engine.
All I had for an engine was a Ford 400 which was recently overhauled along with a C6 trans.
Cavalier rack, Scarebird discs, 95 Ford Explorer 8.8 rear with discs.
Looking at a set of Vintique wheels...15 x 8 for the rear and 15 x 7 for the front.
Cost would be around 275. shipped.

I had one of those back in 86 when I lived in Bossier City...
Never got the chance to build it ...Traided it off for a 66 Chevelle body.
    I have a complete 251 Chrysler flathead 6 that's all apart.
2 head bolts broke off in the block even with the deck.
    It has a Spitfire head.
I was originally going to use it in the Wayfarer but desided to go with the 400.
For got to mention that I have frenched a pair of 89 Cady tail lights in the rear.
Had to remove the lower 1/3 of the tail lights so they would fit vertically.
I just started back on the car after 2 years.
    Good luck with yours.

  6. I have a 50 wayfarer 2 door sedan exactly like yours.... the stock hubcaps are held on the wheels with clips, I know that they recently started coming out with wider aftermarket wheels with the clips on them. Just make sure you get wheels with the clips if you plan on using stock caps. I just got the 360/727 combo put in mine, and im starting on the floors this weekend.

Yours looks like it is in better shape than mine was when I bought it...
I like this body style better than all the rest of the 50' Mopars except for the Canadian Wayfarer fast back.
Did you get the engine and trans with the car?
    Mine had only the body...
Well... I finished welding the floor pans today...As you can see in one of my pictures, I cut the floor pan too short at the rear on the passenger side so I cut a 1/2" strip and added it in.
Filled in the 2 coves where the #3 & 4 body mounts go on both sides but Forgot to cut the bolt holes!.
guess I will use a 1/4" drill bit through the bottom to find the location. Then use the 1-1/2" hole saw to inlarge them to the right size from the top.
The body cap plugs that cover the body bolts are 1-1/2" 6 inside and 2 in the trunk.
Friend of mine came over today and had bought a 43 Plymouth 4 door Suicide doors in the rear. I need to go see...
Tomorrow I will Tackle the 2 rear body mounts...I will try to use an early Mustang tank which is mounted through the trunk and secured by the flange around the tank.
That means that I need a rectangular hole in the center of the trunk 32" x 24"
Might as well cut it all out and start over with new sheetmetal......
I have already replaced the lower rear, under the trunk all the way across.
where the splash pan meets the body and added in the tail lights.

If you go to this link http://www.summitracing.com/search/B.../?autoview=SKU you can see that there wheels are all covered with a cap so no way to see if they have clips or the dimple type.
I also have the 4 NOS fender trim pieces that I will not be using.
I bought them off of ebay a couple of years ago when I wanted to go back original...

Here is a picture of the trunk using paint to show where I would cut (RED) to remove the trunk pan.
Replace it with some more 16ga. as I used in the floor, and double up around the proposed tank flange mount location.
If I use a Mustang fuel tank, it would be somewhare around the yellow line...
    Any thoughts?

Congratulations on the great project, keep the pics coming. I'll be watching this one for sure.

  13. My floors are barely hanging on, the panel that the visors mount on is nonexistant and the area in the trunk thats around the latch is also gone. My car was 100% complete and stock. My engine and trans came out of a 79 cordoba I got for $20. Im not too sure about the wheels you're interested in, im using 8 inch wide chrysler police steelies. Im also not using my fender trim, mine were all beat up.

Yeah, you have a big project there...At least you can keep it all Mopar...Guess mine is a FODGE or a DORD or....LOL!!
Police wheelies...Will the old Dodge hubcap fit on them?
I might check into that type of wheel.
My hubcap has an inside lip that snaps over the prongs and is 7-5/16" dia.

    A few more pictures...
2 of the final welding at the very rear floor pan beside rear seat where the 4 body bolts are located.
As you can see next to last picture, I have removed the drip rail and rounded the top and bottom rear of the door.
It has been 98 deg. with 90% humidity!
Not much work getting done in that kind of heat!

Today I finished up the rear body mount crossmember...made from a galvinized metal building wall stud.
Once it is welded in I will drill out the mount holes.
Will have to order more 18ga. for the trunk pan.
A 70 Mustang 20 gal. fuel tank will be used.

Shure is hot here in Texas...100* and 98% Humidity.
A few more pictures of my progress.
Fuel tank, brake and fuel lines.
I had some 3/8" square aluminum rod and made up some line clamps.
The proportioning valve here is for disk/drum.
I have ordered the same type but for disc/disc.

    That's a tank and kit for a 70 Mustang.
I will have to change out the fuel guage with one for a Ford.

How about a 54 Chevy front bumper on the rear?
I was fooling around with MS Paint and put this bumper on the rear of the Dodge.

Didn't those cars have ribbed bumpers? I thought that the ribbed ones looked good.

Yes...I have the bumpers but they remind me of those rediculous late 70's type.
I had thought about making a roll pan with the exhaust through it and using a thin type bumper like on the old 50's pickups.
Here's the rear bumper...it sticks out past the fenders also.
