I have a 1950 Ford flathead in my 31 Ford coupe. It is bored 080 over and has a 1950 Ford-O-Matic distributor, converted to 12volts, Champion H10C plugs and a generator. The points are worn so I would like to give her a tune up.

What should my plug gap, dwell, and timing be set to?

    Plugs....029-032
    points...014-016
    58-63% dwell
Timing...set it to the bump on pulley aligned with pointer static or with timing light with vac line disconnected. While doing that, rev it up a bit with timing light on and vac line reconnected and see if timing moves. There really isn't any way to easily check timing curve on these things, but at least verify that it moves.
First modification should be a distributor with a better advance system!

Do yourself a favor get one of GMC Bubba's converted Chevy distributors. You will be much happier than with the ford distributor. Best bang for the buck you can spend on a flatty.
