Iv'e got a 34 ford pick up,and a 50 flathead engine. The motor bolts up to the trans and sits in the frame ok.But the front pully hits the front crossmember and the water pump outlets are too low.Does anyone know what pullys I need? And which water pumps I need?I sure would like to keep the the side distributer.
    Thanks Jim

Are you running the two groove pully? There was a thread a little while back on trimming it down to one. The guy was having a similar problem. Try a search on "Flathead pully".
I think the truck pumps might work for you, but do a bunch of measuring first, before you order some. I've got a '50 8BA in an A style frame and used the truck pumps... Fitting the headers is a bitch:mad: :D

Which crank pulley do you have? There are a few. Truck waterpumps will work & yes, the outlet is low (it is on all of them), so you'll have a wonderful time getting your lower hoses on! ;D

Truck water pumps are real close to '37-48 style, so I think you can fit them to the '34 mounts with a simple up and over spacer (very roughly, 1 1/2"up and over) like Ford sold to put the 59A's into earlies. Check engine position in front by shoving a rod through the holes for the handcrank--that should hit the center of the crank pulley. 1940 Ford and '49 Ford have stepped water hoses that might be candidates to cut&fit.

This is one difficult fit! I recently put an 8BA in a 34 P/U. It came out really nice but it took a lot of work.:D If you are keeping the closed driveshaft and stock style tranny there is no way you will line up the crank hole as the engine is toooo long. Even cutting the outer pulley on a 49' double won't give you room. Even with the engine backed up against the stock firewall the pulley will still interfere with the crossmember. You can use truck 8RT waterpumps and mount the engine off the frame rail. This will raise the engine front pulley over the crossmember. Of course if you are running an open driveshaft then you can move it all back a little. Another option is to put all the early stuff onto the late block and your troubles are over.:) Them 8BA's are quite a lot longer with that dizzy up there. If you want to keep it up there then you will have to raise the engine. BTW have to run an electric fan, I went with Zirgo. I also raised the tranny a little to get a better alignment with the rear. In a way it's nice to have that engine up where you can SEE it. You may have read about this being a piece of cake but THEY LIED!!!

If you have no need for the second pulley, see if you can find one with a single pulley - not sure how tight it is with this exact combo, but spacing the engine up a bit might be the only recourse.
