sorry for never getting back to you guys here. been busy and the thread just kept moving further and further back. yeah the car is for sale. id like to use some of that cash towards the purchase of my own shop space (no more rent). yes it has rear quarters, i made them slide on style like the Buster Litton 49 Ford turned hardtop. this past Saturday, buddy Trent flew in Friday midnight slept on my couch and we shot the shoebox this time in Miami with a model on Saturday, then he flew back out. I dont know how he does it! hard working individual there, mucho respecto!
That thing is awsome! One of the very few customs that has completely flipped my switch. Good luck on the shop space. It makes a huge difference not having to pay rent somewhere!
Tyler, I have a decapitated '40 coupe which will have a Carson top. Could you post some photos of your quarter windows and the way that they mount? Thanks!
i will snap some pics of the rear quarters. i never did. ill post some up later. thanks again for the kind words. here are a couple more pics from that day that Trent snapped. Trent has a great eye for this stuff, im so happy that he likes to use girls with no tats, it just fits better with the clean body of the shoebox. just for fun i had him shoot one of me and my girlfriend (no tats either) kind of a natural nothing happening kind of shot. i told him i wanted something similar to the one of Watson with the girl standing next to him in G****vine. thanks Trent!
Thanks. I'll watch for them. I agree with you; that's a good-looking lady who looks right at home in your car.
I believe that you have reset the bar- very high ! How will the mortals manage from here on in ? That car is the apex of gobsmackery !
Hubba hubba... drip.. drip.. thats the sound of me drooling.. soo pretty. Soo beautiful. Wow.. just... wow! She is amazing.. Nice car as well... but i could barely see the car beyond those amazing legs and perfectly sculptured body.. whew.. there is a god..
Yaril, thanks again for singlehandedly helping to change the way the rest of the world views Florida.
sorry i seen the girl next to the car and said she look like she could of been from the 50s. she had the look so I made a black and white of that picture as if it was in a old mags.. You think the shot was from the 50s.. was trying to put some noise in it to date it but this was the best I could do.. sweet car.I love it
Very neat, thanks! If I understand what I'm looking at, the curved stainless upper frame is attached to the top, and the frameless (except for the front edge) quarter window slides into it? Is the purpose of the joggle on the bottom edge of the gl*** to keep it from sliding forward when it's in place?
thank you guys!!! yes the gl*** slides into the fixed curved stainless. its not the "best" solution but it gets the job done. the bottom "track" is actually the gl*** track that used to go inside the quarter, i put it flat on the sill with new U shaped felt. the gl*** cut is actually like that because i made it after i painted the car :/ i had to keep reshaping the lower edge to allow me to slide into place. had a planned before for this setup i would have jotted the inner rear quarter (inside door jamb) to allow the gl*** to slide in with no funky shape on the bottom; however with my time crunch when building it somethings had to be done in order to keep on schedule. hope that helps you out. on a hard-topped car the top would not really need a stainless track, you can simply put the same U shape felt on a curved channel. depending the thickness of your gl***, U felt it will be possible to frame the gl*** in stainless, that would be the best way cause all the gl*** will be framed even when it is removed. good luck! keep me posted.
I think your solution looks good. In our case the fully-framed quarter window should work out without difficulty. Actually we are hoping to use a regulator and have a roll-down quarter window, but the geometry of the windows and the body may make that too difficult. The car we're working on is a '40 (see here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=661072) which started as a coupe but has been altered with 2-door sedan doors and all the posts trimmed off to make a convert. There's quite an angle between the door window and the quarter window, and getting the roll-up geometry to work is a challenge. Thanks again for the input.
This is the best looking shoebox I have ever seen (and I have been looking at them since owning my first in 1961), and to see it from start to finish is amazing.Put this into a book format and every '49-'51 Ford owner will have to have a copy! Thanks
With 24 pages, there isn't really anything i could say that has not already been about how nice a job you have done, and how CLEAN that car is. I personally never cared much for Carson tops, NOT that they are not nice, just not my "thing"... HOWEVER, THIS car has changed my mind. There is nothing about it i do not like..It's stunning. Nicely done!!!!! Tony
thank you guys for the continuing kind words! me and my girl took the car out on the 3rd for a local show and i decided to leave the top at the shop. wow, its sooo much fun driving around with no top at all on this car, it looks like its just melting away as i drive past from the reverse rake. i used stock stainless bezels. look in my profile i did a tech on frenching with my 51 Buick. hope it helps you out.
