Or Moby **** the Great White Whale! :D

Well, I own that '50 Ford Coupe that I have thought & dream about since I was a kid.

I can now come clean and admit I purchased the car from my friend Rene' who had a stroke 3 years ago and he finally realized he would never be able to drive again.

I have also ridden in this car in the past and it ran great and was actually pretty quick.

I had a long talk with a fellow club member that installed the Maverick rear axle, new springs, shocks and installed the updated front brakes, rebuilt the front suspension and new shocks, He told me the floors were original and amazing,he thought the car must have been parked in a garage before Rene' bought it about 7 years ago, It has sat on the street in front of his home for the past 3 years and hasn't moved during that time,

The car has a 351 Cleveland & C-4 transmission,gl*** is good, rear bumper is nice, front bumper is a bumper boyz pos and looks it.

The interior is showing neglect and that's about it,I'm going back tomorrow and pump up the front tires and have a friend with a roll back pick the car up, The car does have a nice set of Hildebrand wheels with knockoffs.

The color ****s but I will live with it while I do all the maintenance.HRP

Nice! I happen to like white cars so I’m even ok with the color.

Neat purchase Cap'n Ahab! You live in a better part of the county than I do evidently. That car wouldn't have last 3 months on the curb around here.

Colour is alright, scotchbrite the bumper and clean the interior drive it sounds like a fun drivetrain combo

I never understood this "pulled/pulling the trigger" saying.
"Pulling the trigger"...is the first step in destroying something..!

So you are gonna destroy your new Ford ?

  12. Cool car HRP! I’ve loved those cars since I built the AMT 1949 Ford kit when I was a kid! With a Cleveland to boot! Great score, sorry to hear about the cir***stances

Mike, pull the trigger is a idiom which I have heard my entire life - To make a final decision or commit to a certain course of action or about something. HRP

Neat car, I like it. Shame about your buddy not being able to drive it anymore, in the past I would have called shame on him for leaving it sit that long but I know how it goes sometimes, and it's often hard to let go of the dream.

I know you're not looking for suggestions but if I had that car I think I'd search out some side moldings, something simple to break up the slab sides, and I'd swap those wheels out for some whitewalls and caps. I know people love Halibrands but to me they look like a sports car or racing wheel, out of place on a street driven, stock bodied 50's car.

Rene' & I have been friends for more than 50 years and since he had the stroke a lot of people have approached him about buying the car in the past 3 years, especially with it sitting at the curb in front of his home.

He knew I like '50 Coupes and he is glad I bought it,his only request was after I get the car back on the road I have to take him to lunch, there is enough room in the trunk for his wheel chair and it should be easy to slid in,I'm looking forward to the day. HRP

  18. Now you've done it, lol. Neat car, that's a club coupe right? I think it's a pretty low production model. Take some rust converter and a small wad of aluminum foil and go to town on those bumpers.

Man, they don’t come any better than that! A ‘50 coupe was what I lusted after in Jr High. An older guy (senior in HS) had one with skirts, lowered, nosed & decked with 55 Chevy style treatment to the headlights. It had a chromed up flathead with 3 97’s a cam and Edelbrock heads. The whole deal was painted a “sky blue” (up here we’d call it Carolina Blue). Had a floating style grille bar out of a Pontiac. Blue and white tuck and roll interior. I can still see it vividly in my mind.

Ya’ done good. I hope you’ll keep it and build it into something special.

I like it just like it is! You see so many in dark colors it’s refreshing to see the white. Even the wheels fit in to me. A new set of black walls, a good cleanup, check brakes, steering and cooling system, and then drive the tires off it!

Congratulations on the purchase. I think you'll find you will like the car a lot. As we get older, they are a lot easier to live with than the earlier cars. When I was in my fifties I could deal with torque tubes, distributors in the front with weird coils, transverse springs, lever shocks and all that stuff, but now I'm glad I have my '51. It just makes life easier for an old ****** like me. Now get it going and take your friend for a ride.

BTW, I agree with "Squawblow" about side trim on these cars as well as the wheels. I have tried a few other kinds on my car, but always end up going back to painted steelies, whitewalls, trim rings, and stock caps.

I didn't think to ask Rene' if he still has the wheels & tires that were on the car when he purchased the car, I don't think the wheels are right for the car,as for the trim I haven't thought that far ahead.

I'm not too crazy about a white car with white walls. HRP

Congratulations. I always liked the 49-50 coupes. My dad used to have one and I bought one in 1979 but had to let it go because of a divorce. Coupes look good as is and don't need a chop to make the top look right. Enjoy...

Nice buy, and I’m betting your friend is happy that it went to a friend.

I’m not generally a white car person, but if it had the side moldings back on I think it would look pretty nice. I actually like the wheels, but again, with the white car a set of steelies and caps would give you the opportunity to introduce a little bit of color to the stark white.
Maybe dark blue steelies and 40’ caps??

You have a talent for nailing a look. Curious where you’ll go with this. . . .
