    Time to announce my next big project. I have always liked sectioned shoebox coupes This thing is on its way across country. Money has changed hands (not that much total). In this thread, we shall discover if I have made a super sweet deal or have I bought someone else’s disaster.

    Cool! And shoebox central isn’t that far from you at all. I’ve been looking at shoe boxes all week haha. This should be neat!

    My mantra has always been : "If radical body modifications are contemplated; Shoebox coupes must be sectioned but never chopped, while Tudor sedans must be chopped, but never sectioned."

    This one fills the bill. It looks like a "keeper"; good luck!

    It looks to be about a 3 inch section taken out. I think that you have a good starting point. I would complete the production welding (if everything look and feels right to you) before any more cutting takes place. So far so good. Thanks for posting.

    Kinda rough around the edges but nothing that can’t be fixed. It’s a really nice start on a killer project and cannot wait to see more pics of her when she gets home :)

    The seller head a trick custom frame with all the modern suspension stuff, that would’ve cost me twice what I paid for the car. He was nice enough to give me a stock frame, which is fine with me.

    I will be taking some inspiration from one of the greatest the Lee Pratt coupe, but not exactly

    This photoshop was done by Rot ‘n Kustom here. His first draft gave it a bit too much green. The green will be a bit lighter.

    I asked about the frame because in picture it looked like it had a narrow track. I will be watching build. Like the sectioned better than chopped look. Don

    It already came in on the truck. Several things I could not tell in the ad photos; trunk and doors are tack welded on. I hope to hell there’s hinges in there somewhere. I’ve had experience hanging car doors and I’m not that good at it It has some brand new rear quarters. I didn’t know about.

    Most of this will have to be done professionally, so any input you guys have for custom shops in the center of the USA, I am listening.

    Needs a lot, but also has a lot of potential for greatness. Looking forward to seeing more, can't remember the last sectioned custom build I saw going on.

    That last Photoshop I posted with the orange and less green is a lot like it. I have some ideas to modify the tail light trunk rear bumper area. Will have to explain that later. I have some 1956 Chrysler headlight housings to mold in. I want to peak the tops of those fenders just a bit, something I don’t see much on these Fords

    I may play around with wheel choices. I want to sit low when parked, but I will raise it up for driving. Rather than those modern baggy things, I might go with a vintage hydraulic set up. I’ve got some 14 inch Chrome Tru-Spoke type wheels and wide white bias tires. There will be a bit of an early low rider, but more of a full custom vibe. A few famous early 60s custom cars had hydraulic suspension.

    First thing on the agenda is to finish the bodywork as is, with a good coat of sealer on, will call that stage one. Also jump in with the new engine and trans. I have an early 60s Ford Windsor engine that could get it running. I’d like to have something more exotic like an early Cadillac or BOP engine, we’ll see what turns up.

    I want a trick, custom interior, like right around 1960 show car. Right now, I think I want to adapt a 1958 Thunderbird complete interior, then see if that could be customized further. Overall, I want a show winning traditional custom car that I can drive anywhere, anytime I want.

    OK Pope, let’s start a conversation on that. I’ve been wanting this for many, many years. There have been some really nice customs come out of the last few years like that gold Buick. Cody set the bar pretty high as to what it takes these days.

    Previous owner said 4 1/2 inches. I have not attempted to measure. It might be fun if I could find some stock measurements.

    I don’t know what you gave for it but you have a really good start on one heck of a custom. I like that most of the hard work is done and it’s pretty much fit and finish for the body work now. I wanted to section one of my coupes that I had but at the time I was still working and didn’t have the time to play with them. If you need a set of ‘51 trunk hinges I have a really nice set here in my way. I am definitely subscribed so I can watch the build and looking forward to more pics :D

    Bottom of door glass opening to bottom edge of door is just about 32".
     
  30. The proportions look pretty good. So it's not one of those Dracula mobiles that you must hide in the daylight and only take out after dark. :confused:
    Now all you need to finish it is lots of ambition, time, money, patience, storage space, and an understanding woman...... hopefully not more than one. :cool:
