    Hey guys ,

I’m looking to buy a ford coupe at the moment and I wanted to see if it was a good deal. Guy says his family has had it since new so all the Trim is there. No engine, no trans. Looks solid except for the roof damage which is worrying. I have a 66 mustang and a 68 torino so I know how to work on cl***ics and what to look for. I don’t know much about coupes however! Major project for sure but it is a coupe which is a bit rarer than sedans if I’m not mistaken. Any help/info is greatly appreciated.

yeah I was thinking 2k is the max I would pay for it. Would you say the huge dent on the roof is repairable? as in, not having to cut it off and replace it haha

I did a quick search after seeing your post. I was surprised that there were as many 50 Ford coupes for sale. Prices run all over the place, from one field car that needed pretty much everything at $4,500 to a ton at a couple of 1,000 to as low as $600. So there are plenty out there. If your plans were to chop it I found a OK car there in California, already chopped but needing everything else for $2,000. I also agree that for the car you posted $2,000 is as far as I would go.

Be careful. It looks like it has been sitting right on the ground for decades. That is never good.

I started with a $3500 51 coupe. Never again. There are lots of drivers out there for 10 to 15Gs..I had 10 Gs in the body(doing 90% of the work myself)before I started on the driveline. It is very tempting to buy cheap Fixer upper, but not always the most economical in the long run. Body work is the most time consuming and expensive part of such a project. If you have the facility and enjoy body work, go for it!! Just my 2 cents worth

$1500 would be as far as I would go. I'll lay ya odds that parts of that floor are rusted out and probably other things too. They're out there. If you're not in a hurry be patient. However, if you really need it....it's been posted for a couple of months and he 'Must Sell'. Offer him $1200 and go up to $1500.

As as reference, here's 2 that are up the road a piece...................

or, spend twice as much and get 10 times the car............................

Hey thanks for that information. There’s a lot to think about, and I’m thinking I should wait for a more complete one

Wow those are really good projects! I’ve been looking for a while and haven’t found much. But you’re right I should be more patient and look for a more complete one. That Victoria you posted is sweet I might have to check it out. I did offer 1k and went up to 1250 and then 1500 but then stopped. I think I’ll just p*** on it.

I think that if I didn't already have a nice coupe, I'd be all over that Victoria!

It's kinda odd; the '51 Victoria was a late attempt by Ford to compete with the new Chevrolet Bel Aire two door hardtop, and yet it is arguably the best looking of all the "shoebox" Fords.

  15. 176E6DD1-F360-4A70-A318-B28289E1DF1E.jpeg I was sold on a good running flathead in a ‘50 Club Coupe. Once I got it home and started digging into it, I kinda regretted jumping on the first one I found. Too late now! Every Saturday for two years was spent in the garage cutting and welding new floor panels and braces, from the toe boards to the the back seat area. I haven’t got to the rusted out trunk, but hell, I’m driving it now.

Body work? I wanted to do it all, but gave up (for now) and shot the whole thing in black epoxy primer.

I rewired the entire car, and replaced every component in the brake system inluding the lines.

I could go on and on - interior (far from finished), dash (big project by itself), engine (yeah, it ran good, but I had to replace every gasket and seal), transmission (ditto), rear end (Maverick, rebuilt but not installed yet)...

I could have done better by shopping around for a while. But hey, I’m not sorry, for some reason. I love this car!

  16. I would buy that car and give it a Chevy motor with a four speed. But I’m obviously (see above) a glutton for punishment.
