Unique isn't always bad in my opinion but i know what you mean. Its odd but i've also though of putting a door handle on it and making suicide doors without having to open the front first

I agree! I have had both, but my Hudson was a Commander. Hudsons have a loyal following much like Studes, but not much resale value if that is a concern. Hudson is a BIG bomb to push around, parts are hard to find ,etc.
Since advice and opinions are no-charge here on HAMB, forget unique, and look for a coupe or small '50's truck for that RED RAM!
OR, if you are stuck on Hudsons, watch for a Pickup truck!

I could always trade the hemi for the 360, 413, 727, and nv3500. Does that sound like a better trade than the Hudson, extra parts, and 360?

I only see one pic. And from the looks of it, your hemi engine is worth more. I like Hudsons and this car has potential if you've got a lot of ambition. But from a money standpoint, you're getting the short end of the deal.

You think even with the running 360 and nv3500 I'm still getting the bad deal?

  9. Greetings Jeremy,I have own a Hudson for a long time(1971) They are one of the best driving cars out there! the one you are looking at in my mind has been messed with too much! keep your Hemi, look for a better Hudson! They don't cost much for a "Good One" The Best are 1951 to 1954! Fourdoor with a Twin-H 308 are easy to love! 100 miles a hour all day long! Very comfortable !They come "Chopped " from the factory! for the time & money you will be a lot happier!Uncle Bill

Maybe it's different in GA, but around here, a running 360 is a $200 engine if you can find anyone who wants it. Mopar muscle car guys want 340, 383, and 440 engines, and Hemis. It's not really a traditional hot rod or custom engine either. It's fine if you want to run one, they're fairly reliable and can make some horsepower, but value-wise, worth very little.

I don't want to discourage you since you seem to have a lot of ambition. And maybe there's something there that I'm not seeing. But from what you've told us, I still think you're better off selling your Hemi outright and shopping around for a nicer project with the money.

My girlfriend is building a '51 Chevy starting with $1 and re-investing so the whole car is basically free. The car she ended up buying is a 2 door, ran when we picked it up, and had almost all of the pieces needed to complete the project, for $1000. We looked at some other cheaper cars, but I'm glad we held out for a good one, now it's almost ready for paint. Here's the thread if you want to read about it.

Keep your enthusiasm, but consider aiming it at a car that won't need so much work to finish.

I appreciate all the helpful info from everyone. If anyone wants to buy a red ram let me know.. Haha. I've been trying to sell it for a year and all I get are these trade offers... And the rest is people with no money just lonely and wanting to talk about it i guess. The guy wanting it has a 53 Chrysler and the 241 red ram was one of two engine options for his car. I'm a car lover and i love the fact it would have a nice home.... on the other hand... You guys know... You've seen the butcher work.

241 was never available in any Chrysler. The only V8 available in a '53 Chrysler would be an extended bellhousing 331.

Trade deals are good, what price do you have on the Hemi, what does your for sale ad look like? Maybe that's the issue. If you don't have an asking price, you'll never get any real offers.

That car has some serious potential, it could turn out awesome.

If I was in your shoes I would do it!

If you go custom, only half as many will find it cool. But them who does will be 3times as hyped about. But you would be in the same situation you are now, only a handful in the whole World who wants to buy it.
No only negativ thing a have to say is ; Dang it looks rough.

The latest photos show you'll need a lot of skill and $$$, plus ambition.
If that frame is even slightly rusted , you'll bend at the roof without the door post in there. Maybe best to look for a 54 Dodge to put your engine in?
That Hudson does not have the correct rocker panels or rear quarters , but it doesn't really matter , it's a custom.

I got it. We traded. The pictures didn't do anything justice. The extra parts I have is ridiculous. Extra horns, taillights, chrome, bumpers, doors, hoods, enough for 3 or 4 hudsons. I got the 360 4bbl m/t valve covers and the nv3500 5 speed Tran with shifter and divided driveshaft for the Tran.

I'm putting in door posts. I'm changing his modification. It really would look awesome in my opinion as just 2 door like it is. Will post pics soon.

Listen to Squablow, John Walker, and others. That motor is worth quite a lot.

I know. It was basically free. I got the motor for free with another buy and had out for a year. This guy had a 53 Chrysler with that engine option so it is in a good home. After the blasting with walnut she looks gorgeous. All the parts I have including the glove box door is for a commadore so Im going to run the vin to make sure. I'm new to Hudson but I love the stance of this car and I am really stoked about the build. She is going go be beautiful. I have 99% of the parts. I just need new safety gl*** instead of this old shard gl***. Extra hood, 2 fenders with lights, 8 taillights, 4 doors, 4 horns....so much to name. I've put my 74 dodge build on hold for this one. Worse comes to worse....and I hate doing it...but I could make my money in s****ping all the metal. I just can't bring myself to do it. Those crazy doors are being welding on the body making it a custom 2 door. I think it looks good that way.
The 360 motor I also got for the hemi is already installed and running great and the nv3500 with shifter and joint driveshaft that also came with it has already sold for 500$....so I feel pretty good about it all. I will get some pictures of it after the sand blast with the black primer.
