I have a 50 2 door mercury. I am in need of a new set of leaf springs as the passenger side are shattered in several locations. Any recommendations for an alternate spring from a different vehicle? The only people that I can find is JAMCO, and they are $800 with a hefty $700 shipping cost to me in Alaska. Any help is much appreciated. I would not be completely opposed to a 4 link setup if anyone has ever done that as well; as I am installing a Ford 9". Thank you, I attached a few pics of my car as well.
THERE'S A PLACE CALLED DEAVER SPRING, HERE IN SO CAL, THAT SELLS MONO-LEAFS. ABOUT $400 A PAIR. i DON'T KNOW OF ANOTHER CAR THAT HAS A SPRING THAT'S A DIRECT SWAP. MAYBE SOMEONE KNOWS.
Eaton Detroit Spring is the go to for a lot of folks and a lot of shops. Product Lookup by vehicle (eatondetroitspring.com)
Looking at the prices from Eaton, Jamco may be selling Eaton springs. I have no idea if this add for General spring is up to date but the price looks good Mercury Passenger Car 1949-1951 Leaf Springs | General Spring (generalspringkc.com) Same part number 66-101 Leaf Spring Assembly (stengelbros.net)
Give this place a call as they advertise 49-51 Merc rear springs. $110 each. https://www.generalspringkc.com/194...-45K_ieWAVxcZunqiFYGbr7zUD5hXWthoC0IkQAvD_BwE In 2002 I bought new 1951 Merc rear springs shown above from Posies. Give them a call.
Stengel brothers has the measurements here Mercury Full Size 1949-56 Leaf Springs - Stengel Bros Inc. That might help if you are planning on hunting though spring charts.
I did try General Spring and they get all of their metal from China, so they do not have any projection as to when they can get any more in
Think mine came from St. Louis Spring, very reasonable several years ago, and they told me they make the same springs for some of the aftermarket names we all recognize. But St. Louis sold at a much better price.
McVeigh Truck Springs makes leaf packs for 49-51 Mercury. About $400 They get great reviews. I put a set on my Merc, they were excellent, and fit perfect.
Another idea mighty be checking if a local spring shop could make you a set. Our little city has a spring shop that can make up just about any leaf spring you need.
You should have a big truck shop near you somewhere.......I had mine made up at one for a fraction of the retail spring prices.
