COMING SOON TO A CL***IFIEDS ADD NEAR YOU! hahaha,,for real,,I probably will put it up for sale once its done.... ....financially.,,i shouldn't have even bought it when I did.,but I wanted the opourtunity to own a car that I never thought I would be able to,, ..one of them things ya know...
well,,,i'm building it as if i will keep it forever,,,but i probably will sell it,,as much as i want to do to it,,it will be a while before i get every thing done... i meant to say earlier to the MERC guys here....i would NEVER move the back window forward on a 51,,,but in my opinon 49 and 50's if not moved forward at least a lil bit look astetically kinda weird,,, i have much respect for Sam Barris, but to me his first merc looks weird in the back area..the back area on 49 & 50's are too short... thats my opinion...
Beleive me Sam.Its all a matter of opinion and by the looks of it ,alot more guys agree with you than me on the back window subgect. The car rocks and so does Badbobs.
just my style!!!!!!!!!!! hoping to post some of my build pics soon. kinda like a "HOW-TO" rather than a brag thread. lol, well ,ok, a bit of brag is just on spot!!! im a bit guilty of it myself ! GOOD JOB ETHER
dont get me wrong, brag on!!!!!! im all about it!!! theres nothin wrong with being proud of your build, and youve got one to be proud of! thats what its all about! ETHER
sam, glad you decided to chop it. looks great like all of your cars. a bit of advice if you don't mind. set your back window in place to check fit before you put filler on it. i learned this the hard way. mine was sticking up about a half in. on each end and i had to cut and redo. but, it's fixed now. i moved the rear window all the way forward and put a filler between the bottom of the window and the trunk. pushed the car outside, stepped back to view all my hard work. looked like a ****ing hudson. damn. pushed it back in (one car garage) cut it all apart, moved it back to stock location and now it's a merc again. i kept my drip rails. i just like the look better, but, most of the early cars don't have them. i also kept the belt line molding which is also something most of the early cars don't have. thats kustomizing build to your taste not everyone elses.
You're a choppin' fool, ****,,,what is that, 3 in the last 6 months? Don't let the haters keep ya down... <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/-Qae_TUTeGo&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/-Qae_TUTeGo&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> Bryan
bob, well, when the window was moved up with the filler from the bottom to the trunk it made the trunk look a foot longer. the roof looked squashed and short with a long trunk like a hudson. the pic i posted was after i moved the window back to stock location and put the filler above the window to the roof. also, with the window moved forward the c-piller on my car was too narrow. looked bad. also if you can tell in the pic, i put a crease or seam or whatever at the bottom of the filler like a stock merc has. that was a little tricky. but it was worth it to me. it's also hard to tell in the pic. but the rear of my roof is too high. it's a little bit too hammered in the front, but, i just can't get motivated to cut it apart again. thanks for the kind words bob.
i would like to take back something i foolishly said yesterday..i guess you can say i put my foot in my mouth and was talking outta my ***... i looked at the Sam Barris merc again today in TRJ and that roof is perfect,,i guess my comment was made because of a photo i have of it that must have been taken at a weird angle or something... that roof is perfect...again,please excuse my ignorance,,, i am second guesing mine know and seriously condsidering moving my window further towards the back...
thanks! i sometimes have a problem with over ****izing things to the point that they drive me crazy...
I bought the Rodders Journal just to get the article about the Sam Barris Merc. The overall car is beautiful, but there is some things that I don't like. I'm sure back then when he did the car, there wasn't much to compare it to,so it was a trend setter. But there has been many Mercs done since then,so there's alot more ideas and variations out there to see. How much to chop, slanted b-pilars,frenched lights, shaved, nosed, decked, the stance, bumpergaurds or not, etc. Everytime I see a Merc,I take it all in and choose what I like and what I don't. To tell you the truth...I like them all. I've never seen one that I liked everything about it,not even mine! I'm sure you guys feel the same.
