I know a lot of factors determine price, but anyone have a ballpark on a 1950 Mercury that has been sitting in a garage for over 10 years? The owner recently passed and could no longer drive after suffering from Parkinson's. After she drove it for the last time, it was parked and not touched. Unfortunately I am on the other side of the country, at the moment, and the family member cleaning out the house has no mechanical ability. Merc is in Flagstaff. 50merc-1.jpg 50merc-2.jpg 50merc-3.jpg 50merc-4.jpg

Looks very nice from the pictures, but having sat for 10 years, it's going to need some work to get it back on the road. And a few low-rez pics never tell the whole story. Knowing if it has a clean title, does it still run/do the brakes work, is the interior nice, was the chrome redone, is the paint legit nice or is it full of body filler, are the floors solid or were they hack-patched up in the past, etc. Original engine, anything custom done to it mechanical-wise?

I'd take a wild guess at $9500 but you could move thousands in either direction with more info than that. '50 Merc is a popular car, but the 4 door sedan, less so.

I'm gonna say $5k for a 4 door that has set for 10 years. Everything that has fluid of some kind in it will have to be cleaned, rebuilt or replaced.

How old are those pictures? It looks like they were taken before it was taken out of service. They may not represent how it looks today.

The two options you have are to go look at the car yourself or have a HAMB'er look at it, too many unanswered questions to give usable advice.

  7. Agree! Cars in the background look to be from the 60s.

    Bttt.
I couldn't estimate a value, but I can help keep this query on page 1.

Anyone near Flag want to go take a look at it? Those pics are old, but it was only driven a couple of times after those were taken. So it looks the same, but with an inch of dirt, lol. Thanks for the responses.

An inch of dirt on it for ten years means it will never shine like that again without some miraculous cleaning and polishing. Knock a thousand off the value at least, maybe two. If the upholstery is in the same condition (window left open, even if inside a garage), knock another thousand.

10 years has a funny way of being 30 years.

I still think Germany invaded Poland 50 years ago.

Those cars are from the 80s-90s :)

    I'm 5 hours away, sorry.

I went by a video when I bought my ‘26 Ford touring car.

The video was grainy, silent and the guy cranking it looked a lot like Buster Keaton.

    Live and learn.

The market is soft right now, like brown banana.
Shoebox Fords that were advertised for 15k are now advertised for 7500.
These are asking prices not getting prices.
    Odd thing…..
Rusted pieces of junk and I do mean J-U-N-K, seem to be remarkably close in price to running and driving cars.
It’s a weird market right now.

My original price quote is probably way too high now that this info is out. If it's only been driven a couple times since the 90s and it's covered in dirt, cut my price in half.

10 years ago is 2015. This car was roadworthy in 2015 but now has an inch of dirt on it? Is it stored in an actual garage or a cow barn?

It's stored in a heated garage, surrounded by junk, I mean stuff, lol. I requested pictures and was told of the garage situation and didn't realize the hoard had made its way to the garage as well. I will post it up for sale, this house needs to be cleaned out by the end of the month, no reasonable offer (whatever that is, lol) will be turned away. I appreciate the responses, and the time someone took to investigate and post up the pictures of the cars in the background ;)

I guess you guys speaking of the horrors of a car sitting in a garage for 10 years have never watch Fryburger and Dulchich take a car from the junkyard and get it running with other parts from the junkyard and take it across country.

  19. I drag crap out of field and scrapyards.

finding one in a barn or basement would be the dream

I would agree with the $5k range on that car with it being a 4 door and sitting for the last 10 years or so. The market is tough right now.
