I have a 1950 Olds 3 Speed trans. I got it from a buddy of mine with the clutch, bellhousing and throghout bearing fork.He was missing the drive shaft yoke. I could not find the correct yoke. However I did find a yoke for an old powerglide trans that has the same splines but its pretty long. I remember seeing a thread about someone machining one down to fit, but can't find it now. How much should I have the yoke machined down? Thanks in advaance.

  2. Take your transmission and your yoke to a reliable driveshaft shop. They should be able to answer your questions and do the work.

Go to Ed Moore drivelines 456 So Sierra Way in San Bernardino he is the best in the business and right in your back yard. He builds most of the driveshafts run at Perris auto speedway. Talk to John Caton and show him what you have.

Actually it depends on how much of the yoke is on the splines and how much the drive shaft is going to move. Most yokes do not move much. I believe the one made for my transmission swap was 3/4 to 1” from bottoming out on the inside of the yoke.

Just shove it in as far as it will go. Measure how far it is from where the seal in the transmission is to where the seal would ride on the yoke and add 1/4". Then cut that much off of the yoke.

@51 mercules I like that modified milk crate to hold the transmission. Hope you don't mind me stealing your idea.
