Has anyone here transplanted a 425ci Olds into a 1950 or 1951 Olds 88? Any tips or tricks would be helpful. Pics would be great! I've got the engine, it's a 1966 vintage 425ci 'Rocket' with a TH400 trans attached, and I've got a line on a 1950 or 1951 88 two door. I'm going to look at the car over the weekend hopefully, but I don't want to drag it home if I'm going to have to cut it to pieces. I'd rather just leave it for someone else with more suitable plans for it. Thanks to all.

If the 50/51 tudor is in good shape and the price is right I would jump all over it myself. Very hard to find around here. Does it have a motor? If so the 303 rocket 88 is pretty cool and the hydro is okay. If you are looking for more horses than your 425 will probably fit in just fine, just have to modify your mounts and driveshaft I think. Check with Goatroper02 here on the HAMB, he is the olds guy to ask anything specific about this. Good luck..

give up on the transplant and sell me the OLDS! We have one with a BBC in it. I am certain you can get it done

  4. I've seen a couple of 50 Olds and a 53 with 455 Olds installed.

Makes a nice car and one of the owners I talked to told me it was a fairly easy swap.

I'm sure you know, but the 425 and 455 are the same engines.
Lighter than the Rockeet motors too.

Here's some pictures of the mounts we made for my Dad's 49 wagon in 1980. We used the same engine and trans combination just one year newer, car would run low 14's with the only mod's being headers, two many carbs, 3.23 gears and old bias ply tires. Mounts were simple pieces of 1/4 plate, using the Olds rubber mounts. We also added power steering so the header got rather complicated on the drivers side, can't tell you if stock manifolds and/or stock steering will clear. Had good clearance everywhere else, alternator even fit into the notch in the right inner fender (where I believe the washer bottle may have gone) with the factory brackets. In case you're wondering about the crossmember pictures- Dad gave the car to my brother several years back, he put a Fatman sub in it, I saved all the leftovers.

I like all the info. Have my 50 for sale on the board. I still can't decide to build it or sell it. I think I have a line on a 455 and a 2/4 intake. Procrastinating on getting started.
