Nah, it was just the Village Idiot late for work. Some people have a hard life getting by on single digit I.Q.s.

Well, someone has to be a moron, better them than us. I'm betting he didn't even have a rod of his own, probably drove his wife's Prius to the show.:D

I'm currently upgrading my 53 cranbrook front end that way but haven't planned to change the anti-sway bar. Do you have any picture of the setup with the jeep bar??

We're hoping to drive her in tomorrow evening and saturday day/night. Tractor is there for the duration of the fair.If youre interested in agriculture, antique tractors, doodlebugs, old farm trucks, antique farm machinery, livestock, tractor/pony pulls, classic cars etc....this is an awsome fair. lots of cool stuff to look at

I hate to come here and brag but i just can't hep myself. we took Betty...and my '86 Jeep CJ7 to the MOPAR show held annually in Vernon,CT every year. Betty took home first place trophy in the pre 1957 class. Although the Jeep isnt HAMB friendly it took home first place in the truck class. So very excited for Betty's first win!! It sure is nice to see people recognize the car and its nice to see all of the hard work pay off in the end. pictures to come soon.

Cool! You have definitely earned it, especially after all the bodywork, the paint issues and then followed by the no start problems. Did you pat Betty on the fender? I'm sure the old gal would appreciate it!

Its such a treat to see pictures of your car now, especially after what it looked like before I photoshopped it way back when. You've really done the car justice. Bet you're still grinning huh?

we're still grinning for sure haha. i dont think anyone has faith in us when we start a project...especially my dad who has high expectations of everything. when he first saw betty i think i heard every expletive in the book and thats about the only thing he could say :). i just cant wait to see what we can pull off with the next one.

Adding another photo to this thread: this time...a little history.

I was able to be put in contact with the family of Jerry Smith who owned Jerry Smith's Crosstown Motors in Kansas City. The historical society actually put me in contact with the family. They are greatful to hear that one of their dads' cars has found a great home and is still around. Apparently it wasnt common for him to keep cars and he only kept cars in his collection if they were favorites. They forwarded me a picture of Jerry Smith with his shop truck and they are going to dig up a few more photos for me. They are also going to try and track down any photos/info of Betty from back when their dad had her. How neat! His daughter said that the Jerry changed from a Chrysler dealership to a buick dealership in the spring of 1950. betty was sold in December 1950 so this was likely one of the last Chrysler's Jerry ever sold. Jerry took posession of the car when it was returned to his dealership as a trade-in in 1965. Jerry smith sold Betty to CT in 1982/1983. He died in 1984.

    What a great photo:

That is too cool! I noticed recently that the dealership name on my car was ghosting through the $300 paint job. I know the plant origin and almost all of the owner history, so I hope maybe this winter to be able to track down the dealer like you did. What fantastic history and a great pic. Great pics of you guys with the car as well!

That is definitely cool! To get pictures of your car from back in the day is even better! Now with your photography skills you and the boyfriend ought to do some "period correct" pictures with Betty as if YOU bought her in 1950.

thanks! i think its pretty awsome. i love the cars but sometimes i think i'm more in love with the history!! If only old Betty could tell stories. Hopefully I will hear back from the family a few days from now and I can start peicing together more about the car. they asked for the model and color so hopefully someone down in Kansas City will know about the car. It was down there for 30 years! I can't wait to see if they send more photos

I have thought about taking some vintage photos with the car! I own a few 50's-esque dresses and we've actually gone out in the car dressed in period correct clothing; we just never got any photos :)....someday

yes she is very much dog approved. our corgi loves it! she can climb in and jump up on the "couch" all by herself :). Everytime we pull into my parents house Lexi comes running to sit in the car. She likes to sit in it and sleep on the bench seat. Thanks for all the nice comments!

Good to see it brought back to life. My dad has an original 51 four door. I'm thinking it's probably on its original miles as well. Hopefully it finds a home soon, but in the mean time it is nice to see one of these cars receive some love.

Thanks Continental!! There is another 4 door 50 plym in the area that showed up at the garage when day when Joey drove Betty to work (the guy saw it on his way by). It is pretty hammered and the floors are literally falling out of it. The entire bottom of the car is rusted out. Looks like it was a new england car its entire life. He was drooling over our car (we had just finished it). I think both Joey and the other plym's owner were excited to see eachothers cars since we have never before seen a 50 plym around! Needless to say we haven't seen the other Plymouth since. It doesnt get driven much and it just sits around. It cert is nice to have one of the only NICE 50 Plmy around. Its just a wonderful thing to see the attention that the car draws. Everyday that Joey drives her to work; people pull in to look at it parked out front. Then the old timers who stop in all start story teling.

The funniest thing is some people dont notice the rear door handles missing and some zero right it on it. It's the first question they ask..."So....ummm...what happened to the door handles? did it not come with them?" haha. then when you tell them you took them off they just don't get it. but it gets the conversation going.

I think that the one thing we enjoy most is the compliments and the stories that the car brings out. we dont need anyone's approval and we certainly don't need a trophy. the compliments and stories are our trophy :).

just this past weekend we took the car to its first ever strictly hot rod show: the hotr rod fallout. We were in a line of really nice cars waiting to enter and there was a photographer standing at the gate. Out of all those cars he tookthe time to stop and give us a thumbs and tell us "now thats a nice ride!"

Just the simple things like those compliments from people at shows and here on the HAMB that make us know it's a job well-done. So THANKS everyone!

Just joined the HAMB today and found this thread. Thanks for you efforts in documenting your work. I have just come into possesion of a '49 with '50 grille and bumpers. I am encouraged by your story. Thanks!
