 I just got my 1950 2 door sedan up and running after buying it last sept. It has been sitting in a barn in Idaho for the last 19 years. I could tell that they were in the process of replacing the motor when they parked it.(235,no exhaust and throttle not working) I stripped body down to bare metal and fixed all the rust. Drove it the first day 20+ miles no problem. 2nd day went maybe 5 miles and when I was on the freeway, in drive, it started to feel like I was pulling someone as the car started to labor just to keep at 50 mph. I slowed down and then went into low. I had to drive it home on the back streets as now it only goes into low and reverse. You put it into drive and does not shift into drive, just stays in low. Fluid smells burnt. Changed fluid and cleaned pickup screen, but do change. Can't find anything in any powerglide manuals about this problem. Does not slip, just won't go into drive. I always started out in low and then went to drive. Any help?

    my .02...
Do yourself a favor and toss it in favor of a 5 speed or newer OD auto. by having a lower first gear, you can run a higher rear gear and drive with modern traffic. it could take alot of dollars just to get it back to a slow car again. A t5 is way more fun.

the plan is to upgrade but not until this winter. Not a lot of sunny days here in the northwest, so I want to enjoy them for this summer. Just got it painted and new interior so its a bitch to see it here in the garage and can't drive it.
