    Here's the skinny,

I've been searching for an early 1950's Chevy for some time. I've done a lot of reading on them and have become informed of the vendors and parts available for them.

So I posted an add searcing for one on Craigslist. I got a response for a 1954 Buick which I had never considered. This thing from the pics looks pretty decent and completee and I really like it's sytle but I don't know much about them and can't find much info on them.

Question: Is anyone familiar with 1950's Buick, this is a 1954. Was GM very univeral back then a**** brands? I know there's a ton of parts like dropped uprights, rear conversion kits, disk brake conversion kits, ect. for 1950 Chevy's but I cant find much on the Buicks.

The buick I was considering is at the following post:

    Thanks in advace!

There is almost no parts interchange between the Buick and the Chev of that period. Possibly some small items, a frontwheel bearing, ignition coil or some such, but he ch***is, suspension, driveline are all different components. Not that that is a bad thing. The Buicks are rugged, well made cars. Parts are available for them if you look for them. Fatman makes dropped spindle uprights for them for example.

I particularly like '54 Buicks........one of the best of the Buick grilles from the 50's.....for my taste at least.

Ray is correct. Not much will interchange. I have a 54 Buick and have found that a lot of stuff is out there. The more you ask the more you find out. What you need to decide is if you like the body and style of the Buick. For me it's the best looking car built in the 50s. Next you can go anyway you want. Leave the suspension. Add a fatman kit. Or subframe it like I am. Scarbird makes a brake upgrade and his stuff is great. Not to mention the NailHead is the best looking engine ever built but it's hard to adapt a trans to the cheap or build the the dynoflow cheap for that matter. Most buicks have options the lesser chevy did not like power brakes, steering and windows.

    Go for it

Maybe the Olds, not the Pontiac. I would bet money a 55 or 56 Buick door will work.
