ok by me . I will keep them rolling..as long as there is interest.High heels, Nick Carter, flying jeeps,Junior Hopp, Batman, Wing Ding by Jack keller
This is a great page .... I was definitely inspired by these artists to come up with my hot rod wreck art!
I hope that I'm not taking this too far astray, but some of the stuff contained in the ads in those old comic books was cool too......
Cadillac Jack in Xenozoic Tales (aka Cadillacs & Dinosaurs) is highly reccomended. artwork by Mark Schultz is top notch.
Love cars, love art, love kitsch...sigh. Thanks guys, just what I need. Another money-sucking collecting habit!
Just located Atomic Overdrive #1 on Ebay buy it now .. Were these the only 2 issues? here are several Dragstrip Hotrodders
Most Romance issues had tales of heartbreak about guys that never paid enough attention to cute young teenager girls. Also some Supernatural & Adventure issues.. these were the days when you would watch out for UFOs when parking with your girl on lovers lane late at night.
If you can find one on ebay or elsewhere.. look for the book(one of many) on Alex Toth this book was called"one for the Road.... with all the art and stories on hotrods, cars and such. there is stories about Tony Nancy,Ed Roth, etc,etc... I know they are out of print... but if you can get one...its a great book full of Toth's Mastery.
these collections are sick.....Jeff ...I've never seen those before....I love the one with the 32 slamming into the tree!
Thanks for the tip on the 1997 issues of Atomic Overdrive with the 50s style art. The art by Peter Grau is excellent. I REALLY was impressed. Sorry there was only 2 issues. Reminded me of the Blob story line. The Terror From Tacoma
Always loved his perspective...He put us under the cars, in them and above them, not just looking at them.
A few more. Hot Rod Horror is within the past few years (2004)? which i ordered on ebay yesterday. No idea of content yet. Any other later sequencal art automotive related comics or comic strips out there worth mentioning other than Hot Rod & Drag Cartoon publications which have been covered in depth here on HAMB. Duel Drag by Nicholas Alascia
