Except for the respective 57 Vette & Thunderbird motors... both car are pre 48 OEM an/or pre 57 after market parts... the 33 does use a home built four bar set up but some guys did that in the 50's too... the 27 stayed with a three point suspension w/ 95" wheelbase and the belly pan is 6" off the ground without a dropped axle... pretty happy with that since my goal was less than 10" (anyone with an unsplit wishbone will appreciate the creativity involved) there is a thread on the 27 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=431579

I grew up in Philly, Pa. and shawdowed my Uncle and his buddys. The only tat's and greasers I remember were hard core bikers, not car guys. The cars at this time ('62-'65) were fat fendered tail draggers and '55-'57 chevy and Ford wannabe gassers with shackles, no front bumpers and tube grills, the groups rarely mixed.

shit i remember that car! that beach photo was taken in Weston-Super-Mare, about 20 minutes from Bristol....its where i grew up, the car was featured in our Uk hotrod mag Custom Car in the early 90's maybe? love the old shots of it!
It funny that the shot on beach in UK is so close to shot that was taken On Langley Air Force Base 1958 beside the Back River.....
Man I just went through this thread and I did not see many rusty pieces of shit with license plates for floor boards or doors. I guess those that claim "It's like it was back in the day" Don't have a clue what it really was like Hmmmmmm
Ive just been through all 21 pages. Sensational thread. Cannot wait for the next installments. Living throught the 50s-60s Hot Rod, Kustoms, Racing, Cruise and Diner scene would have a fantastic experience. This pick up is absolutely wild, I also saw it in the lastest Hot Deluxe and wondered if it was a survivor. Would be quite a ride..

we just got this one. not for sure if it was built in the 50's originally or the 60's. i feel the paint is 60's but everybody is thinking it was originally built in the 50's. we are trying to figure out who built it. it sat in a california barn covered up for 40 years close to palmdale ca. if anybody has any info please let me know. thanks, Rob

I think that is either a 1938 or 1939 Lincoln Zephyr. I uses Ford gears but I believe the case is somewhat stronger. The shifter would come out just below the dash and to the right of the "waterfall". If you get the chance take a look at Chip Foose's P-32 dash to get an idea of the configuration. Geoffrey
