Thanks Brad, if you can, that would really be cool. I know I'm not the only one that would like to see it.
What more can you say about an engine builder whos last name is Schnell? Just doesn't get any better than that. Someone should do a story about Bill Schnell. TRJ would be a good place. IIRC, he gets a brief mention in "Speed Merchants", hell of a book, highly recommended.
Just bought Sept/oct/nov/dec on evilbay, there was a "part 2" to the article on the Bracy car in the Oct. issue, so I got all of it! Brad, if you find it, still go ahead and post it, I am eager to see it, sure lots of other guys are too. Friggen COOL little car. Bowie, I assume he kept the cross-steer?
thankyou, yes it sat in a barn since 1975. it is a real moonshine car with documentation. it runs great. the owner builder died in 2011 at the age of 80.
George I hope then at least you'll be the one person who doesn't cry "booooo" when I start my next build. I'm going to put an "A" on 34 rails! No chop, heavy channel, white frame and suspension, 15" chrome wheels same size all around(probably use one of your favorite wheel covers), I'd also like to do spring in front and use a an old ford spare tire cover hoop for small cycle style fenders.
You and Brad2V should talk. F&J will be all over that too. was that was you that started that shitstorm thread?
PLEASE do this and post the build. not another model A,high boy, deuce frame, flat head, steel wheels...........yaaaaawwwwnnn.
I'm still uncertain about engine choice. I've put a lot of thought to early Pontiac tri power stuff since my roots are in Chief motivation. I just sold an aluminum bell housing for manual trans and could end up kicking myself. Oh yeah it will have thin white walls, hell maybe red!
Good news/bad news /bad news. Good, I have Nov '72. Bad, I don't have the Sept issue. Also bad, my scanner and I aren't currently speaking. I'll take it to work tomorrow and scan it there. Patience my friends. If it's any consolation, it is a super neat car.. Channel?! Cycle fenders?! Full wheelcovers?! Oh my. Dying to get started on my rpu with the same plan. Get a build thread up when you get going on yours.
Pontiac power is largely overlooked in traditional hot rods, which should hopefully mean slightly cheaper parts than Olds or Hemi.
Ok, success. This one hopefully opens some discussion as well. 50's rods seemed to be split between what we look at now as traditional hot rods, and 'sports rods'. NO ONE in the modern era is building anything in that style. I'd like to see that change.
George: In the article the car has cowl steering, it says it's a Ross box. If you don't get the mag pm a# to me and I'll message the article to you.
I love the proportions of it. Cockpit must be mighty tight..... That's quite the pedal/linkage setup!
Anyone know anything about this one? This photo was used in an article on silicone protective compounds in Rodding & Re-styling March 1957. It appears to be very well detailed, interior is nice (check out the floor!) and I like the windshield (boat?). Also appears to have some sort of wheel well inserts.
Wow! Did you read the last paragraph!! I bet the car is still intact somewhere in WA state! Thanks a bunch Brad!
I LOVE the trimmed '28/'29 front fenders. What an amazing car. Blackie Blackburn is legend in these parts. Guy was a master craftsman and had his hand in a lot of cars. Even my dad spoke respectfully of him, and he was a pretty hard-core sporty car guy that had a bit of an attitude about most hot rodders. That's another guy TRJ should do a story on.
I know this car has been seen a lot, but its another really great windshield, I really love this. I was knocked out when this showed up in TRJ a couple years ago.
Theres at least one thread on it here somewhere. mid-late fifties survivor. It was written up in TRJ and Pat Ganahls "Lost Hot Rods II" as well. IIRC, the windshield frame used a lot of '36 ford coupe pieces.
Here's a neat article that follows the different versions of the same car. First it had a flathead and the wire wheel covers (Lyons?). Then updated with Hemi and Studebaker wheel covers. And the final version has a hood top, no wheel covers and is getting more and more detailed. From Rodding & Re-styling July 1958.
Does anybody remember this car? It was right on here, the guy bought it, removed the. Fenders and nerf bar, and unchanneled it, removed hood, painted it black and if I recall correctly he migth have changed the dash. I was so sad. I can't wrap my head around it.
What I find sad is... If I recall he got it for a good price cause no one else was interested in it, as if it's not cool? What does everyone have against channeled cars these days? Hey I like a 32 frames but it's not what makes a hot rod. When was the last time any of you heard someone's first statement upon seeing a good rod say, "holy mother of god that frame rail is earth shattering!" ?
